What was the last movie you watched?

"Mystic River" (Clint Eastwood)

Flawless acting all-around, but the Dennis Lehane novel is so much better, as usual.
 
Pokémon: Lucario And The Mystery Of Mew

Well this was a pleasant surprise! The animation is far above average for this particular film series and the story deals with some surprisingly serious and heavy themes not normally found in kids' movies. I think this just replaced the fourth film as my second favorite in the series.

Submarine and Braindead.

The first one I had to see after hearing the excellent soundtrack. I quite liked it. It's a bit Wes Anderson-y, but darker and British, mixed with some Godard, although that might just be because of the fonts and coloring. Nice film altogether.

And Braindead, because it's Braindead. The uncut version too; extra gory, but hilarious. Totally forgot about the baby. :)

How was it? I remember watching Paddington cartoons as a kid and I hadn't even thought about that bear in probably twenty years when I saw the movie trailer. Is it good like the recent Tintin movie or mediocre like the recent Alvin And The Chipmunks movies?
 
It was very good! It's written for kids, but it's not kiddie. The humor is clean, and can be appreciated by even the adults. More than once I found myself laughing out loud. Plus, Peter Capaldi is always awesome in my book.
 
I watched "The Book Thief" the other night...It was a really good film :) I started the book a few years back but can't remember why I didn't continue to read it. It's made me want to unearth it from wherever it may be at my parent's house. I watched "Saving Mr. Banks" the night before that or it might have been the night before the night before..That really made me cry actually. Brilliant film.
 
Wreck it Ralph. Fun and clever movie. Loved the way they made up the 'Sugar Rush' world.
 
"The Imitation Game" (about Alan Turing). I never expected this to make a showing in my homophobic conservative town, and yet some colleagues told me they had seen it two nights ago at the theater and I went immediately, in case it doesn't stick around...

I wish there had been more discussion about how the machines were developed (that's the inner geek speaking), but not too disappointed since I can research it all I want. They also didn't include many of Turing's most bizarre quirks, but maybe because they didn't want to inundate the viewer with an overload of "weirdness". I loved the question by Turing as a boy, wondering how codes were different from speaking, since people always say one thing and mean something else and expect you to understand...even if you don't. And I loved the many Haeckel illustrations and natural history specimens in his apartment after the war, when he was also trying to work out the mechanism behind morphogenesis (even the wallpaper the set designer chose looks like a simplified reaction-diffusion model!). I also liked Joan's observations about the world being so much less if everyone was "normal" :)

I want to see this, not only because of the subject matter, but also because I have a non-sexual crush on Benedict Cumberbatch. Even if they did change some aspects of his real personality for the film.
 
I ended up watching Silver linings playbook today, one of those movies.. clearly not my genre of preference. But all things considering, it wasn't bad IMO. It felt a lot more relatable than most of those romantic drama comedy type things I've come across in my life.

"Che!"

Waited nearly 40 years to catch this obscure Hollywood movie about Fidel Castro's problematic second in command. Jack Palance as Castro, and Omar Sharif in the title role. Meh...it was so-so.

Agreed. Not quite as good as Wreck It Ralph and Tangled, but a hundred times better than Frozen. A couple more like this and they might just erase the stain of that POS. We'll have to wait until 2016 to find out if the next one's any good, but they'll actually have two films that year to make up for not having one this year.
 
I have a backlog of movies I need to see, recently scratched "The Hunt for Red October" off of it. AKA, "Where the f**k are the subs?" :P
