Lack of eye contact in public

I think I stated this before, But it's hard for me to make eye contact, even around my family since I'm don't feel comfortable looking at people.

I avoid eye contact because I am afraid to have contact with people. If they see me looking at them they might start talking to me. I cannot understand most things social so things can go very badly for me.

I think other autistic people avoid eye contact because it feels too intense, I am only guessing. My ex girlfriend who is autistic would almost never make eye contact and when we would talk a lot of the time she would close her eyes. I did not ask her about it.

Lack of eye contact can be okay, but when you look down, it means we are generally not confident about ourselves. If we don't make eye contact but look eye level at other things, this would be best. It may be best to focus on doing things that can build our self confidence.
