I Love The Halloween Season =)

It feels like Mother Nature is joining in on the spooky Halloween decorations:

No decorations to speak if for myself. But it is cool to see the creative chops of neighbors who do have Halloween decorations. Heck. One of my neighbors near by has three skeletons out. One is at the grill. Two are sitting in lawn chairs.

But for me. It also a month of spooky imagination. Thinking about vampires, demons, and ghosts. It just gets you in the mood.

And when I did game. It would be about this time that I would play Silent Hill 1,2, and 3 back to back. Unfortunately a tradition I've not partook in, in a few years.

I sometimes go to the Whitby Goth event around Halloween. It's a great way to have some spooky fun. But this time I'm going to a Club in Birmingham and meeting some of my weird friends there for fun&games.

I love the Holloween season, but, alas, in the country we don't get trick or treaters. I miss decorating for the little ones and giving out candy. Still, I enjoy seeing A Nightmare Before Christmas. The opening is amazing.

Still, I also enjoy Dia de los Muertos. We usually enjoy getting to Chicago to see the displays at the National Museum of Mexican Art. I've enjoyed visiting Oaxaca the week before Dia de los Muertos for cooking lessons (Moles!) and to see the ceramic arts there.

l broke down and bought a BOO sign, and, two cute tinsel bats, and matching tinsel and decorated the front of my little home. Watching Halloween movies all thru October

I don't do Halloween. It's too autumn-y and I hate autumn.

Spring is my favourite season. I guess Halloween is in springtime in countries like Australia...which wouldn't feel right but maybe I'd like Halloween more if it was in the spring here lol.

Normally, I'm not at all into morbid stuff. I'm a spring person, when everything is all green & new.

But Halloween is different. I love the plastic skulls, bones, tombstones...

It feel like I'm making fun of the "end of life" feeling of fall & winter because I know full well that in a few months, everything will be fine and new again.

I enjoyed Halloween a lot when I got dressed for parties. I'd ignore everything until noon on the 31st, when there were already costumed people about. I'd go to a thrift store with $2.00 and look for inspiration. Then I'd go home and apply scissors and hot glue. Now, it is a day or so of high anxiety, getting ready to serve treats and otherwise get my place looking kid-friendly. I don't want to have left over junk food, so I make "Vampire Repellent" - beer cups filled with garlic-butter popcorn. I make it on demand, which varies wildly, so there's only a half-dozen left for me. I have a big orange window shade on the front of the house, so for the big event, I mask it with a piece of cardboard I cut to make it look like a witch silhouetted on a harvest moon.

I had a hilarious idea for a pumpkin decorating contest that I ended up not being able to use since it involved items that I didn’t make myself. The idea was to use a pumpkin and cut a small hole in it large enough to fit a small doll from the waist up and have it representing Cinderella permanently stuck inside the pumpkin. The story is that she made it home before the magic wore off but she didn’t get out of the pumpkin in time. I was going to have a bunch of LOL dolls and pets as spectators to seeing Cinderella stuck inside the pumpkin and using an OMG doll for the Fairy Godmother who is now horrified that Cinderella is stuck. I think that would have been enough to become one of the favorites of the contest.
