Despite making my best efforts to get out and socialize like I’ve been posting on my status updates lately, I still feel very low in my overall emotional health. Today, I feel particularly low. At my age (37) and current life-status (Part-time work and no college degree.), can things still ever get better? I need to be strong but how can I keep going when I feel so weak?
In general, allowing external comparisons to control your mental state is
unhealthy.
The healthy path is to work to "B
e the best possible version of yourself".
A similarly "mostly true" quote is "
Life is a journey, not a destination".
Both of those imply that you should
look forward, not back, which is also a good principle.
OFC it's possible to make mistakes along the way: for example
setting tangible life goals is difficult, as is
tuning life goals to reality.
Unsurprisingly there's a quote for that too: "Better to try and fail than not to try at all".
The modern digital world is full of examples of the dangers of making unreasonable comparisons.
The large-scale negative consequences of unreasonable expectations are having an "interesting" effect on the "dating war" right now (**).
"Stop doing X" isn't the same as "You should do Y" of course, but FWIW:
You made a post a week or two ago ago that showed you know the difference between avoidance/denial and small-scale positive behavior. Keep doing that.

There's a Pew study from 2020, but be a bit careful of online interpretations and comments. Not all influencers are can count /lol. I found the study easily via D2G while writing this.
P.S. The "destination" of every life is the same. "Life is a journey, not a destination" implies that, but I prefer the upbeat style. There are, however, some good quotes starting with "You only have one life to live". A couple of examples:
Most common: "You only have one life to live. Make the most of it".
Closest to the first line of this post: "You only have one life to live. Make sure it's yours".
