  • I hate PTSD. I wish I could forget every bad thing that ever happened to me. But my brain likes to replay them when I’m trying to sleep. >:[

So for many people, consciously re-processing those memories is key to getting the subconscious to stop re-playing that stuff, at least to the extent it's keeping us awake at night. Personally I came to think of it as being a safe support person for the little girl I had been, and actually processing with her the stuff she was throwing at me night after night.

@callistermon What you mention is pretty much exactly how PTSD played out for my ex. She had violent and highly symbolic dreams most nights when we were together, then less than a year after we broke up something clicked and she started remembering (though she didn't want to). This had a really big negative effect on her, and I was quite worried, though she is luckily doing better now.

Even though it is very difficult for her, she can at least work on processing what happened which was quite impossible for her while the memories were buried. I wish all of you the greatest strength and luck in handling your past. I know second hand that it requires an enormous amount of courage and resilience. I have the deepest respect for anyone in that situation.
Enzo’s new favorite phrase is “stinky cheese.” He now knows exactly what I mean when I say it. It’s just white cheese but boy does it stink!

    Aw, very sweet. : )

I've had a good day, thank you, and hope you did, too, in spite of your injuries. I hope they heal very soon!

Hi, everyone! I'm sure those bandages look quite fetching, @crewlucaa_! ;) I hope you all have a good evening. Gorgeous autumn day here and lots of gardening to do!

Dog V1 learnt that the word 'Quick' meant that there were sheep in the fields we were passing. This was in the car & not when we were out walking.
I just groomed a dog and I have bite marks on my neck, arm and hands from him attacking me. I finally got a muzzle on him. Sigh

Oh boy. I love dogs but bites are a bit too much for me.

I've been bitten a few times but 99% of the time it was me stepping over a 'boundary'. Dog V4 gets snappy when I blow raspberries on him or if he doesn't want his ears cleaned.

Funnily, my husband doesn't like raspberries either and might bite me if I persisted, which would be a rude thing for me to do anyway. ;)
Someone told me my brain is always going to be permanently 14 years old. I don’t see how finding curiosity and wonder in everything is bad…

    Something like that...Right?

I am 14 years old. I refuse to play by ridiculous rules of the male population where l live. I hide alot in this state. Married men think l should be at their beck and call. Their wives should treat them like dogs and leash them. Joking.

Does that someone have a crystal ball, Luca? Tell them about Dunning-Kruger effect, since they're probably an example of it. It's absence of curiosity that's the killer (of the world and of people, including their own lives) - not the presence of it.
Summer has arrived early. It’s usually still cold here right now. I’m not complaining! I love summer. I’d be better off somewhere tropical.

South America and Australia have climates I could probably deal with.

Spain and Portugal maybe too. I have traveled to a lot of places that were warm, but I also like some places that are unfortunately FREEZING! So I couldn’t live in those places. We have a summer home in Maine but Maine year-round would be unbearable.

New Zealand would be my aim if I had the money.
Hex and Enzo saw a dog they like and refused to move. So I had to “transport” them (97lbs and 65lbs.) Enzo can be picked up. Hex not so much
The full moon honestly looks really creepy tonight. I don’t like it here at night regardless.

Taking some time away from the forums today and focusing on my job, and then getting A LOT of sleep has helped. Thanks everyone for helping.

I'm not that open about my mental health struggled but it's been really hard, especially with what I'm dealing with physically too. Sometimes I come on here and see things that are really triggering.
I will try to take more intermittent breaks and focus more on myself and things in my daily life that are more important than sitting up on my computer all night.
Thanks @tree for helping to make this a safe place too.

I hope your break from the forums is refreshing for you. Sometimes the forums are very helpful for mental health, but every now and then, it hurts. Hope you'll feel better soon :)
Can someone help me find irl autism resources please? This forum is becoming detrimental to my mental health but I can't cut off support. :(

Always happy to provide some sources of de-stressing endorphins! :) That was all before we built the house. We're going, "OMG, we looked ten years younger!" because we were ten years younger... :)

I know the feeling! It's scary! I was a freshman in college 10 years ago.
You and Brett look very happy :) You're definitely soul mates!
Does anyone know how to deal with fluffy/poofy hair? I’m growing my hair out and it’s a disaster. Made worse by PCOS hormone cycle weirdness
    Callistemon
    Callistemon
Is it wavy? Brett looks like a puffball if he tries to brush his hair. Wavy hair ought not be brushed if you can avoid it. I have wavy hair and detangle it with conditioner and a wide-spaced comb in the shower. Then leave-in conditioner after towel-drying. Good for three days, just untangle any sleep tangles. More leave-in conditioner if needed.
    Callistemon
    Callistemon
I never brush it. Finger-style. Mine is a graduated bob cut somewhere between chin and shoulder and I dry it upside down near a heater (fan heater, wood heater) or air dry it - never blow dry. Except my fringe, for going out somewhere dressy.

It’s actually pretty straight, although I sometimes use wavy wigs and extensions. It’s just very, very bushy. Lol. I don’t blow dry mine either but idk if it’d help or not if I did
Not enough sleep and I have to work today and tomorrow, and have therapy and a medical appointment today. But I admit this is my own fault!
My friend said that “Amazing World of Gumball” show would be psychological horror if you watched it while on acid. Lol
    Callistemon
    Callistemon
Well, I think that's why I avoided all that stuff - not a good mix with PTSD. However, who knows if I will hit debauchery in old age sometime! ;)

But apparently I already have a mind that regularly puts itself on mushrooms. ;P Without actual mushrooms!

I have acid/shroom dreams too without having ever done anything lol. I had a dream the other day that one of my friends was a ghost haunting my house, and he came out of a vase. Or maybe it was an urn then? :p

Think of the money we save getting our trips naturally! And all the CDs we can buy with that - or stuff for the animals...
Starting to feel kind of anxious and uncomfortable about posting on here. Just getting weird vibes lately.

You'll probably feel better, when you feel better. Wasn't it just this morning before sun up that you were "having crippling medical anxiety." And hadn't slept in almost 24 hours?

Yes, @tree . My anxiety has been at an all-time high :( I did get some sleep today though!
    Thanks Jim, you’re right :)
