Earlier this week the Netherlands were shocked by the death of a volunteer soccer referee. The 41 year old was kicked and beaten to death by? 3 teens. Yes, Two 16-year olds and one 15-year old brutally kicked the good sir in the head while he was already down.
Needless to say, media is all over this all week. Because of that, I read an article earlier today about antisocial personality disorder and a claim by so-called experts, stating that men until the age of 24 are a bigger danger than afterwards that point of age.
This is the article (which I feel I deserve a medal for translating it, since Google translate does a terrible job)
So anyway, still reading? Good.
As some of you know my girlfriend is an aspie (well, therapists still argue over that, but for sake of the following story, she is). She clearly has more anxiety issues than me, and she certainly is a bit more social than me.
The reason I brought this article up was the following situation.
A few weeks ago, when I was out with my girlfriend at 2 in the night, some guy decided to light some fireworks. My girlfriend panicked and ran off crying. Clearly, she cannot deal with sudden stuff like that. I can?t deal with that either, but where she tried to run and hide, actually instead of thinking to comfort her, I went on to look who did it. My phasers were set to kill. And I?m quite sure that if I found anyone responsible for this it would?ve been a lot messier. Then, I got back to her and told her it was ok, since there was no one around. So far, no fireworks anymore.
Does that point out there is an inherent difference between aspies and the fight or flight response, as well as what was written in the article in terms of antisocial personality disorder and being on a high of testosterone? I know it?s not true for all male aspies, and I?m quite sure there are violent female aspies as well. But still, I think that this kind of semi-violent behavior, triggered by increased irritability and awareness of the senses actually is as much of a problem as the people who are actually targeting those senses just for the heck of it.
Of course those guys wouldn?t know that people came around the corner that were highly sensitive to this. But in that same ideal world, those guys would save their fireworks till new year?s eve.
