I hope someone can represent the autism community as a whole entity. This sounds ridiculous for people who have actual experience in running an autism group. However, if this does work in other countries, why not Singapore?
We should rep not just the low-functioning ones, not just the high-functioning ones, not just Pathlight students. ALL Aspies and Auties.
Actually, I should put my logic to the extremes: every disadvantaged person is worthy of my time and effort to try to understand, and to help.
If there is no unifying figure in the Autism community, then I think we should be content leading a less desirable life than what others expect us.
I got an Aspie friend leading a life of Horlicks and biscuits, and just survive on them, because he's unemployed like forever. I feel for him...
Apparently he's not alone. I have another friend who has a psychiatric disorder, and is unemployed for 2 years, even with a university degree (the one I am currently doing).
