Representing all on the Spectrum

I hope someone can represent the autism community as a whole entity. This sounds ridiculous for people who have actual experience in running an autism group. However, if this does work in other countries, why not Singapore?

We should rep not just the low-functioning ones, not just the high-functioning ones, not just Pathlight students. ALL Aspies and Auties.

Actually, I should put my logic to the extremes: every disadvantaged person is worthy of my time and effort to try to understand, and to help.

If there is no unifying figure in the Autism community, then I think we should be content leading a less desirable life than what others expect us.

I got an Aspie friend leading a life of Horlicks and biscuits, and just survive on them, because he's unemployed like forever. I feel for him...

Apparently he's not alone. I have another friend who has a psychiatric disorder, and is unemployed for 2 years, even with a university degree (the one I am currently doing).

Want me to don a cape and some spandex?

Just kidding; but I can totally understand the issue here. It doesn't even matter what disorder you have, I don't think that it's right to treat anyone as a 2nd rank citizen. I can fully understand not everyone can have the attention they need right away, even those people that take care of them will need to be paid and their day only has X amount of hours. I do however think that the issue should be adressed with higher priority over what most countries are doing now.

Just because someone has a medical record, doesn't mean he's less valuable to get employed.

Here's an interesting thought, and this goes beyond just aspergers. What if... what if... those people that don't get services and support in time end up another Gary McKinnon case, and eventually do things that are frowned upon, just out of sheer boredom?

Besides; for people to keep in touch with "the real world" I thik it would be a good idea to keep them among the "real world" to start with. And just going out for a walk as self-motivation is a silly reasoning (and yes, I've heard that).

Indeed, the State should support every single person, no one should be left behind as a 2nd class citizen. Because each and every single one of us have our own talents, we just need more support.

Well, I think with this comes the argument of "why should you be entitled to anything?". There might be people worse than others, and they don't get anything either.

A thing, and it's what I addressed before when I refered to McKinnon. What if... I use my talents for the not so glamourous things? I can't help but wonder if society considered that an actual threat. If living and earning money is a way to survive, but we can't support everyone to obtain those things by legal and non-taboo things... at some point somethings gotta give I think.

Mind you, I'm not advocating anyone go any other path and act all criminal for the heck of it, but I can surely see this as a result for those functioning but being treated as 2nd class.

We are entitled to things because we are just like any other citizens of the State! But doesn't the State assumes we are all employed? For some of us, we simply can't get employed, but we are all loyal citizens of the State?

I think for the McKinnon case, indeed, the financial pressures is a bad, negative influence on all of us. If we are treated with disdain, then we have to be recognised, we have to live. Other than governmental solutions or having an exceptional skills others like, I don't think other solutions will really help the helpless disadvantaged.
