The Mole People

No just kidding. The Mole People sucked. But from about the same time is one of my oldest favorites and still watch again every few years.

It the Terror from Beyond Space. (1958)

I've not properly explored cinema outside of Asia yet so mine's a bit one-sided. The list comes out a little different each time you make it. I decided this time I'd list the ones I love that I've watched 2+ times and will probably watch again in the future.

Memories of Murder
Parasite
All about Lily Chou-Chou
Hana-bi
It's such a beautiful day
Castaway on the Moon
The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
Old Boy
Ideon: Be Invoked
End of Evangelion

At least Them had production values. The cheesiest big bug film with horrible special effects even for its time (1957) is Beginning of the End, that had grasshoppers crawling around obvious photos of Chicago.

4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
5. Gia
6. Freedom Writers
7. Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

I can't quite make it to ten. My ADHD prevents me from surviving entire movies that don't thoroughly captivate my attention from start to finish. I typically require breaks in which I leave the theatre or pause the movie, often not returning to finish it.

I think of these, in chronological order

- The Wizard of Oz (1939)
- Koyaanisqatsi (1983)
- La Nuit américaine (1973)
- Amadeus (1984)
- A Brighter Summer Day (1991)
- Rebels of the Neon God (1992)
- Chunking Express (1994)
- Conte d'été (1996)
- Before Sunset (2004)
- Melancholia (2011)

The Lord of the Rings trilogy
The Last Unicorn
Pride and Prejudice
The promise (Wuji)
Millennium Actress
Only Yesterday
Practical Magic
Chungking Express
Almost famous
Windstruck

Feel like watching one of those now

Movies have been a lifelong passion since the age of six. Asking me to pick only ten movies from over the course of seventy years is nye impossible. You might as well ask me what my favorite blood cell is. Each film in my memory was and is essential viewing, but I have tastes that run far and wide. Most of the films mentioned above would also be on the list that follows, but I tried to keep from repeating titles, and these are more or less off the top of my head in no particular ranking.

The Ruling Class (and many other Kubrick films as well)
2001 A Space Odyssey
Along With The Gods: The Two Worlds
Along With The Gods: The Last 49 Days
Apocalypse Now: Redux
One From The Heart
Into The Woods
The Host, Okja, Parasite, Snowpiercer (all from Bong Joon-Ho)

Southland Tales
The Tales Of Hoffman
Manhunter
The Adam Project
Theatre of Blood
Singing In The Rain
Serenity
Hugo
Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog (a short but still a big favourite)
Wings of Desire
Angel-A
The Big Lebowski
(and everything else the Coen Brothers have done to date)
The Loved One
The Phantom of the Paradise

I am going to stop myself now, for my list could go on and on past anyone's patience to endure.

On a final note, to demonstrate my motion picture mania, I actually worked one day in a technical capacity on the movie Vital Signs (1990). If you blink you will miss the technical bit that I was involved in ;).

You don't know how happy I am to see The Host on any list. Supremely good movie hidden under a corny premise.
