What was the last movie you watched?

I watched 21 Jump Street last night. It was beyond FUNNY!... and now I'm pretty much in love with Channing Tatum.
 
MASH.

Understand, I loved the TV show, but I'm one of the rare ones who liked the later seasons more than the earlier ones, because the people behind the show decided to make the characters into characters rather than caricatures or ciphers (hello, Trapper John, aka Hawkeye II). So you know where I'm coming from.

Also, I don't think I'm ever going to get Robert Altman. I liked A Prairie Home Companion, but of course I liked a movie with my favourite actress. Gosford Park, on the other hand, I don't think I understood what was going on for more than a handful of seconds.

MASH falls between these extremes for me. It's okay, but didn't engage me all that much except for the climactic act, and even then there was a little deus ex machina smashing me over the head there.

About a warrant officer (Matt Damon) in 2003 Iraq assigned to a detachment that was to track down all the official WMD sites in accordance with "reliable intel". Of course in each and every case they came up empty-handed. Which prompts him to begin looking elsewhere for answers. As he begins to piece together what actually happened, his superiors and representatives of the administration begin overtly thwarting his every move.

Disturbing, but worth seeing.
 
John Adams

An HBO miniseries from 2008 that follows the life of the 2nd president from 1770 to his death in 1826, beginning with the trial in which he defended the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre. All I can say is...wow. Just wow. The casting and cinematography are excellent, the costuming and set design are beyond impressive and the writing is fantastic. Check it out anyway you can.

"My Neighbor Totoro"

I bought this a long time ago. There are a few posts somewhere (above) in this thread. Could never get my grandchildren interested in watching?? Finally I slipped the DVD's into the player and watched. I was completely immersed in the video and the story. Really excellent flick.

I find the minimal visuals to be really comfortable to watch. This was my third Japanese film of this kind, one of which was the one about the Japanese aircraft engineer that recently played in the movie theaters. For that one I went to a last show of the day and had a private screening.

Now I need to watch "Spirited Away." Very soon. "The Making Of A Continent," the whole series, is supposedly in the mail and should have already been delivered. I need watch "Spirited Away" very soon; maybe this evening?
 
The Artist

This one, like A Beautiful Mind, is a fine, professionally done movie that probably had no business winning Best Picture. It bothers me to see a main character who makes me go "meh" as much as this one. Also, it's more for an older audience; the Kids These Days wouldn't see a major twist coming that I'm sure you are supposed to predict.
 
"Spirited Away"

Put the DVD in the coffee-cup holder* in the computer. I was impressed about how well this worked with the setting for full-screen on the monitor. I had never tried playing a movie with the disk reader-player.

"Spirited Away" is a great Japanese animated flick. The animation is much more complete than some of these films, even better than "Kiki's Delivery Service." I was forced/able to watch "Spirited Away" because the disks for "The Making of a Continent" arrived today (Saturday). Took the Post Office forever (standard or 'free' shipping; two weeks since notice that the package had been shipped).

The source of the DVD's for "The Making of a Continent" is MediaOutlet.com; Bayonne, NJ. "Media Outlet" company is domiciled in the Seychelles for tax purposes and stresses in their sales site that they operate under French Law as applicable to The Seychelles. The actual warehouse and functional operations are in Bayonne, NJ. Just another of the many companies escaping from the U.S. Tax burden.

Another thread in this forum is about compulsive behavior among us (Aspies). I seem to mostly need to keep something still to do. A DVD unwatched; a book that needs be read; something in almost every category left to do. Fortunately it goes the other way with paying bills. I want my bills to never be overdue and if I can I pay ahead of time so there is a positive balance. The next-month is often/usually paid almost a month ahead or on the day it can be paid online. Bi-polar compulsion? :) With the arrival of the new DVD's I could comfortably watch the remaining one from the previous purchase.

*["Coffee-cup holder" is a computer joke from at least a decade ago. Story is: The old guy called the computer store and asked about buying a new "Automatic Coffee-Cup Holder." The one that came with his computer had broken? Considerable discussion in the store among the salesmen about what acessories had been offered a few years before to go with new computers. Finally realization that the customer was describing the DVD/disk player. Push the button and the "coffee-cup holder" would extend for use.
May have been a common joke or may have been specific to people selling computers and providing tech-support for them?].
 
Just watched three Aspie movies actually: "Mozart and the Whale", "Adam", and "Temple Grandin". I really liked all of them and they were very insightful. I would encourage any NT's and Aspies alike to watch them if they haven't already. My favorite was "Adam" and I have watched it several times as it seems to really calm me down for some reason - I really like all the actors in the movie (I even bought the movie which I don't do very often.) It does have a very sad ending, which I wish could have been different because then it's like it's portraying that NT/Aspie relationships can't work and I really don't believe that.
 
Mom and I went to see Guardians Of The Galaxy this past weekend. It's excellent, well worth seeing on the big screen. It's got a crazy, offbeat story, silly, over-the-top humor, a great soundtrack (which I picked up immediately after leaving the theater), awesome visuals, and a superb cast. This is now my second favorite Marvel film, right behind Captain America: The First Avenger.

My only real complaint is that I thought the language was a tad excessive for this type of film. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a prude or anything, but it's as if Marvel were afraid the fanboys would revolt if they thought it was too much like a "kids' movie", so they tacked on some unnecessary profanity and a couple of unnecessary vulgar jokes to satisfy them. The film could have passed for a PG without that stuff and I guess they just didn't want to risk it being snubbed by the fanboys for not being "hardcore" enough. Oh well.

If you have even the slightest interest in seeing it, you definitely should and if you do, be sure you sit through the credits to see a very welcome, but unexpected, cameo from one of their more underrated characters.
