Some of my poetry

Twitch

Destroyer of worlds. Well, my own anyway.
Road Kill

Fury little wreckage along the road,
The small and irrelevant tragedies
Of the Great Highway and its industry;
Its striving purpose of forward motion,
Forever advancing the horizon’s
Promise with no regard for the fallen.
Some might afford them a moderate cringe
But most will either ignore them or gin;
The vanquished remind us each of our place
And the unyielding nature of traffic.

Sorry, couldn't help myself:

Infurnace

One morning, with nothing better to do,
I dropped-by Dante’s apartment in hell.
As we made our way down the avenue
Said he: “Since you’re here, have the tour as well.”
I asked of him: “How’d you land this gig?”
As along the banks of the Styx we trod.
“How’d you end-up in the fiery brig?”
Said he: “There’s no harsher critic than God.”
I laughed my ass off—I couldn’t help it,
He shot a look more acid than honey.
I said: “Oh don’t get yourself in a snit,
You have to admit, the big guy’s funny.”
Laughing, in spite of himself, he says:
“Just wait ‘till you meat Richard Ramerez.”

I once read this poem in an early Garfield comic strip:

I have a buddy,
My buddy's a toad
He's kind of muddy,
He's flat on the road
But he is my buddy,
And my buddy to stay
Until he's peeled up,
And sailed away.

Every time I see you it rains

It’s our first date, the sky breaks wide,
We scramble for a place to hide.
A dry spot ‘till the weather wanes:
“Every time I see you it rains.”

Today we wed, it comes again,
Our wedding park is made a fen.
Her wrath she barely now constrains:
“Every time I see you it rains.”

She leaves me for a lightning bolt,
It woes her with a mighty jolt.
With her final breath she complains:
“Every time I see you it rains.”

Short, but brilliantly sweet!
