I got a stingray barb in my right heel. It felt like a hot, electrical poker jabbed into my heel. Very one at the emergency room was pretty blase about it. Not life threatening so suck it up lady. I eventually was screaming in pain and they decided to treat me.

I always say, nonchalantly, that this painful experience has not affected my love of swimming in coastal waters. That said, this happened some 20 years ago and I haven’t been in since.

Ouch. I've never had anything that painful, but only by luck. I stepped on the edge of the wing of a stingray once and it swam a vicious tight circle around me but didn't sting.

I had to help a friend out of the water once when he got bluebottle jellyfish tentacles all over his torso and down his leg. He was having trouble breathing and we had to call an ambulance. That was back before mobile phones, I had to run to the pub to ask for help, we were only kids.

The most painful I've had was a scorpion sting, right on the tip of my finger, that hurt for hours. We also have a particularly nasty bull ant up the top end that feels like there's a hot coal pressing in to your skin, that also hurt for a very long time, levels of pain on par with that of the scorpion.
