My entire life I have been obsessed with machines and how they work. I have taken apart just about every household machine you can think of and modified to fit my desire. Cars, motorcycles, lawn mowers, tape recorders and movie cameras. I also bought slot machines from casinos, and movie projectors from schools,(the big 35mm ones). all had to be taken apart of course. I love to go on ships and look at the power systems, or air craft hangers and gaze at the engines.

I never worked around or on them as a profession but now I i am retired and I rebuild movie cameras and collect them, all kinds 8mm, 16mm, 35mm 1800 crank ones and 1980 electric ones.

I have seen other machine aspies out there I bet there are a lot of us, it is a good way to occupy time when your not a social type person in school/

When I was a child I took apart every small appliance in my home, on the sly, even the telephone, and put them back together before I was caught. Have had a desire since I was a child to know how things worked.

My lifetime was spent as a machinist,mechanic,mechanical engineer and metal fabricator well versed in machinery of all types. I have designed and manufactured machinery,fixturing and assorted items that hit the retail shelves. I put my mark on a great portion of this planet and can run a list of names in the manufacturing world that sounds like fiction until I start to back them up.As much as I would have loved to continue to work,I was placed on the injured roster about six years ago,with a full disability that pretty much set me up for retirement at 50.

I still play an active role in a home based hobby machineshop that continues to get more equipment added to it as time goes by.

My hobbies consist of varied motorsports interests both on the ground and in water,general aviation and model internal combustion engined aircraft that cover my fascination with flight.(I love to go fast)

Some call me a jack of all trades...I add that I am a master of none

I also am obsessed with machines and how the work. I love to take things apart to see how they work, however my wife is not to fond of this trait. She will not let me take our household items apart to see how they work. Unless it is broken, then I will fix it.

I have been lucky enough to work with machinery all of my life. I worked as field service technician for several equipment companies over the years. Nine years ago I retired and started a small repair business of my own. This the perfect work for me, I get to work with my special interest and I work alone. What more could a Aspie ask for!

I would do the same thing too. I even resorted to stealing and vandalism to feed my habit. I got a lock pick set when I was 11 and the sky was the limit. I even went as far as to find out if a car engine would actually blow up (explode like blowup. I took the word blow up literallity.) if it was ran without oil. So I went over to my enemies house and drained the oil out of the engine and started the vehicle and went behind the trees and waited for it to explode. Of course, it never really exploded, it just ceased up. But hey, I guess I learned something in the end and got revenge on one of my enemies. BTW: I clean up my mess and put the oil that I drained out, back into the engine so it would look like nothing had ever happened. Of course, there are plenty of youtube videos out there, showing people doing this stuff. But you get to remember that this was back in the 1980's, we didn't have youtube then.

Another thing I did was mess around with the control system for a sewage lifter station. I would disable the pump and see how high the sewage would rise in the tank, to making the pump keep running until the tank was empty and started sucking air. One day, I accidently cross a couple of wires and completely blew out the control unit. Not only did this disable the pump, but it also disabled the alarm and ended up causing a major sewer back up. They eventually fix the problem and blamed it on a lightning strike.

I could go on and on about this. But it goes to show just how far an aspie will go just to satisfy his curiously. I look back in retrospect and wonder if I really regret all the things that I've done. After all, I was just being me, and I was a lonely boy. I guess I could have done worse, like drugs and alcohol.

My dad, who I strongly suspect has AS, has worked with machines most of his life. He used to repair splice equipment, meaning he was constantly taking things apart and putting them back together. Now he has a different job where he often helps design new products.

I've done a lot of weird things, all in the name of curiosity. But I'd have to say that that sewage pump thing had to be one of the weirdest of them all. Before I had that accident with the control unit. I was messing around with that thing for almost 3 years. But hey! You learn a lot by just tinkering with stuff.

Perhaps one of my best ones was a time that I hacked into the electronic sign over at the shopping mall. No, I didn't put obscenities up on it. But what I did do was put the names of the girls that would always brag about wanting their "name up in lights" up on it. I would then get their attention and show it to them and it was always fun to see how they reacted to it. Then again, that was another one of my cases fo taking things literally.

Mine too, he was a machinist for union butterfield. Then he became an inspector of tools and dies and reamers, then the shop steward. He worked with machinery his entire life.

I used to find broken electronics and stuff at rubbish dumps, then take them home and disassemble them to understand how they work. Eventually, through trial and error, I learnt how to repair them and I once built an electromagnet for the fun of it. I also made money by selling them for scrap metal, especially copper. I can't do that any more though, because all of the rubbish dumps nearby have closed down or you have to pay to enter them.

I love machines too, more specifically track hoes and backhoe loaders which I'm really obsessed with. I also maintain my own backhoe loader, lawn mower and other equipment. But, most of all I just want to get on these machines digging and scooping. My backhoe loader is verily small and I love operating those great big ones.
