Hi from CA!

YiskaChava

Hi!
V.I.P Member
My username is YiskaChava. I am a 29 y/o woman based here in CA, US. I'm new here.

I'm an applied mathematician whom also dabbles in theoretical physics so I do like to talk about science. Even though I am not an expert in astrophysics (I am more of a condensed matter specialist), I am enthusiast.

However, I like learning all sorts of things like literature, world religions, etc. I also like to hear people's stories. I tend to be more of an observer than a participant.

I've always wondered how they can fit a cow in that little can. Science is amazing.

Welcome! I'm also more of a reader/listener than participant, and a bit of a dabbler in bits of everything. It's nice to have an open and curious mind.

On my way to being a giyoret. I'm almost ready to meet with the Beit Din. It's taken about 10 years because I couldn't grasp basic Hebrew.

You're much more than I am. I have Jewish ancestry on my mom's side, and the Chabad rabbi's wife said "You're as Jewish as Moses". But other than a few Yiddish phrases, and shadows of old tradition, I didn't get any of it at all. My mom was Pagan, as was her family, and my dad was Agnostic, but with a very traditional Christian family.

I never tell people outright that "I am Jewish", because it feels like a lie. I had Santa Claus, and never walked into a Temple until I was in my thirties. I moreso say "I am part Jewish" or "I have Jewish ancestry" or, more appropriately, "I am Messianic Jewish".

I know a wee bit of prayerbook Hebrew, but that's about it. I'm very Jealous of you. You are more Jewish than I could ever hope to be. Mazel Tov on your conversion.

You can even move to Israel, if you wanted!

Thank you so much for the sweet sentiments. I come from a Christian family but they are very open to my conversion.

Sometimes I have a bit of uncertainty in what I identify as. I don't know if I should say this or that. However, it's nice to know someone (you) who can sympathize. Thank you for being there.
