Hey Anyone Else Remember...

The Beetlejuice cartoon series? I've been trying to find fellow fans to discuss it with since the one other person who seemed to like it left me broken hearted after he cheated on me with my supposed best friend.

I do remember it and remember quite enjoying it back in the day. But I'm probably not that obsessed with it that I could contribute to anything substantial in terms of discussion.

Been so long watching that show. It is a good show. Then again lots of cartoons during that time was good. I don't have an obsession of it either but I share the intro of the show.

I remember the cartoon series :D I remember watching this in the mid to late 90's on Nickelodeon and still can remember the theme song lol :)

I also remember a couple of others that needed more episodes and had to short of a lifespan, like the cartoon version of the Mask, which I thought was funny at the time and the Angry Beavers, which was one of my favorites at the time.

This was back when I was watching Nickelodeon for the nicktoons because I wasn't quite old enough to really get into the Nickcoms (or the sitcoms). I really started watching shows like Salute your shorts, hey dude, and etc when I was around ten to eleven years old but I always liked The adventures of Pete and Pete ...

Sorry for rambling on and on but I think they should have a channel for old school Nickelodeon with the older commercials since a lot of the old ones are still relevant to this day.

My brother's friend was a layout artist on that show! I remember that our family ended up with some Nelvana t-shirts (the production company that produced it).

My ex-wife is a big fan of Beetlejuice (and Tim Burton in general), both the film and the animated series. I wish I could do more to fulfill your wish to find a fellow fan to discuss it, but I recall that its humour was rather sophisticated for a young audience.

Last year I saw a production of Waiting for Godot in Stratford that starred Stephen Ouimette, who did the voice of Beetlejuice. It was an intimate setting, and it was very cool to be so close to the actors (including Brian Dennehy), especially knowing that that was Canadian animated Beetlejuice!

I quite agree! Cartoon Network got a channel for their old cartoons, and I think Nick should try to follow suit.

I was somewhat into a few other Nicktoons at the time of Beetlejuice. "Rocko's Modern Life", " Rugrats", "Rin & Stimpy" and "Angry Beavers", mainly. And I've almost never gotten into the sit coms on any channel. My only sitcom exceptions were "Dinosaurs", "Thats So Raven", "Lizzie McGuire" and "The Suite Life", all on the Disney Channel. And I didn't get into those till I was like 12. Except Dinosaurs. I had liked that one since I was only three years old. I was obsessed with prehistoric reptiles for a while, so my underlying obsession for Beetlejuice wasn't really noticeable until I rewatched it on youtube before it got deleted.

I only have three childhood memories involving the Beetlejuice cartoon. One was when I was three or four, my parents went out on a date and left me at my nana's. No big deal though cuz I was close to my nana from day one. But I still missed my mom so my nana had to keep me entertained. So one time, she turned on the TV to Cartoon Network (I remember which channel cuz I remember also having watched Looney Toons that night and then something ELSE came on ;) ) and I was just sitting there coloring in her main room in front of the big screen TV on the table. Suddenly I heard thunder and maniacal laughter followed by "IIIIITSSSS SHOWTIME!!!" And I looked up right then and there. And I didn't see a dark, scary cartoon nightmare. I saw things and people I thought would make great friends. This is coming from a child who was afraid of EVERYTHING. And then I got to know Lydia and I thought "She's so nice and sweet and pretty. I wanna be like her.". And I was pretty mesmerized. And I'm beginning to remember which episode it was that played that night. The title isnt coming to me right now, but it was the one where Beej decides to run his own fast food business. It was an episode involving Scuzzo and Fuzzo too, either way. But the point was, I hadn't been that into a TV cartoon since Casper when I was 2 until that point.

Then, when I was in first grade, I realized my obsession with dinosaurs had made me forget to watch Beetlejuice when it came on, and it was October 1st, so my favorite holiday was on my mind. So I took out some paper and tried to draw Lydia in her spiderweb poncho and I planned to show it to my mom later if it was good enough cuz I wanted her to use the image to make me the costume for Halloween. But I couldn't figure out how to draw her well enough, so I trashed it, and we had no Internet at my house so I just decided to go home and ask her without an image reference. When I asked her, she said "no" cuz I was way too innocent to pull off being gothic. I was forced to be something cute that year again and I felt like Lydia in the episode "Laugh of the Party", when Delia tried to make her wear a cute pink bunny costume for Halloween, and Lydia wanted to be a Werewolf.

And then in third grade, I was obsessed with Pokémon and Harry Potter, but I still remembered Beetlejuice. That Halloween, I tried waiting for it to marathon on Cartoon Network. Nothing. Eventually, I almost have up when I heard the familiar tune and I came running back. But I was sorely disappointed when I saw it wasn't the cartoon series. I still watched the movie, hoping they would play the cartoon afterwards, but they didn't. Nothing. And I was at an age where the movie was still kinda scary, so I remember enjoying all the bits involving Beej and Lyds, but everything else I blocked out at first. I did love the music though so when my dad gave me a CD with the Banana Boat Song on it, I danced like I was one of the possessed at the dinner party every time I played it. Lol

But as I got older, I realized my favorite western type cartoon was never coming back, and I just settled for the movie.

But then I got a few memories from when I was older. When I was 14, one day I realized "Hey! Youtube exists and I can probably watch Beetlejuice the animated series there!". So I went and watched "Critter Sitters" one day while talking to my now ex, but I felt the animation or something was an eyesore and didn't keep watching it (I was hardcore into anime at the time). So I forgot about it again.

But during October when I was 18 and in my first semester of college, I remembered it again when I didn't have any new obsessions, and I wasn't into anime. So I sat down and pushed myself through the pilot episode, saying "This is just episode 1. It probably gets better from here.". And I wound up watching like 4 episodes. After the fourth one, I couldn't stop. I wanted to see how future episodes turned out for my OTP (Original True Pairing), Beetlejuice and Lydia.

So I got pretty obsessed. And I dragged my boyfriend who was living with me... With me. I had him watch some of it with me too and he seemed to enjoy it. I never expected him to but he did and he learned to imitate Beej's voice pretty well, so it was fun to pretend we were Beej and Lydia sometimes out of boredom. And then, just last year, for Halloween, my mom got me Beetlejuice cartoon earrings and my ex got me the entire DVD box set of the cartoon. I related us a lot to Beej and Lydia cuz we were so similar to them. And then this past April, he cheated on me with my best friend and left me all alone to think about how seven years of my life had been for nothing.

And so now when I watch it, it's a little difficult to deal with knowing

Knowing that Beej could leave Lydia at the drop of a dime for another girl and knowing that my new boyfriend keeps acting like he wants to avoid watching the Beetlejuiec cartoon with me...
