Getting attention to website without $$

Don't know if this will be at all helpful, but the way I ran across this site was I was looking for certain information, which I typed into the search bar - it was about having difficulty recognizing faces. One of the things that came up was a conversation about recognizing faces, so I clicked on it and it happened to be a thread from here. What I was reading was so helpful, I came to the forum site and joined.
So maybe putting helpful and interesting advice related to your thing can be one way of drawing more attention. (Like any questions anyone could possibly have pertaining to the subject).
