Christmas

What are you most excited for if you celebrate Christmas? I am excited for the Christmas tress and lights. They are so beautiful to look at.

As a child, I used to enjoy squinting at all Christmas lights, trees and homes. The blurry effect with all those colors...a nice memory. Reminds me of the artwork of artist Leonid Afremov.

Here there are some homeowners who take their exterior Christmas decorations to another level. Always fun to drive to those neighborhoods to see such elaborate displays.

I’m helping my mom decorate now. She is having a fun time decorating the tree and living room. She loves her nut crackers.

I am in Australia, but was born in Poland and still miss a winter Christmas. I remember as a child the smell of pine in the house, the tree in red and green baubles and the snow. It's just not the same in Australia for me with high heat and peak summer and it has never felt 'right' :( but there is a street near me that every year dresses up their homes and some are just lovely to look at. So I look forward to that. The family stuff and get togethers and socialising can be a bit draining though

Sounds just like my mother used to do. I even recall Christmas garlands wrapped around the stair banisters. Though we never had any outdoor displays. But the best was all the desserts my mother made for the holidays....so many goodies. Distant memories now. Glad I still have a couple of pictures from such times.

I don't think we went out to cut down a real Christmas tree when we lived on the island of Guam.

Probably courtesy of some bearded guy....like Santa Claus or Uncle Sam. Many thanks!

Rattan furniture. That's all they issued with base housing....circa late 1950s.

Totally mercenary. Undiagnosed Mom was usually under great stress, which usually decimated holiday spirit, so I stayed out of the way and watched the pile of loot under the tree grow as relatives added in. That’s where I learned to distinguish between good and bad financial times. Some years, the pile of stuff you actually wanted was almost as big as your annual clothing allotment. Plus, the ladies always cooked the best food of the year, and you could eat too much without being told you’re not wealthy.

Mostly I'm super-duper excited to avoid family parties. And I shall do so with great enthusiasm!

Probably I'll go and wander around with the car and look at lights instead. Or I'll be asleep, who knows.

Beyond that, I dont much care.

Family parties are the best part for me, but I'm really psyched about getting some cool photos of Christmas light displays once people start putting them up for some reason. Last year kind of felt like a bust, so I want to do more in that department this year if I can.

Got people some awesome gifts and got word of people getting awesome ones for me, so that part is cool, too :D

Best thing about christmas is that the school I work at is closed for 2 weeks XD.
Seriously thou. I have always really liked the idea of christmas. But when it comes down to it, all it does is force me to do things I generally don`t really like.
But if I have to choose something I would say christmas movies.

I'm so burnt out of christmas. Being a mum, a caring mum, I've done too much and tried too hard and spent too much money and done too much cooking, for many, many years. And it's hot here, reeeeaaaalllly hot, so cooking is very not fun at christmas.

I want a relaxed one for a change. Just the minimum of kid's, maybe my two youngest son's, if they don't have other plans, and partner and a picnic at a waterfall or a swimming hole of something

And presents, uuuuugh. I'm too poor and too burnt out to be excited about gift giving. I am someone who loves giving and has always gone hard, with present giving, and no one really reciprocates, which is ok, I mean, I'm the mum, it goes with the territory, but, I'm so broke and tired, I just don't want to be bothered about it all. I feel guilty that I'm not into it this yeah, but it is what it is.

For what it is worth. There is no need to feel guilty. It is very normal to have this as a parent. I`m very similar.

Nothing really.
Feels very similar to last year.
I hope for some Christmas spirit
And some faith celebration but not even I feel very faithful when I lost the advent candles last year, it threw me off balance.
I was hoping not to buy myself anything but depression buys happened will open it before Christmas though.
So it does not seem like a Christmas present, it will be materialism for mental health
I will be happy the day people really start to care about faith and others.
Other than that feels too commercial. All about the decorations and materialism, no real Christmas spirit.

What are you most excited for if you celebrate Christmas?
All my surviving relatives gathered in one place . . . hugs and presents for everyone . . . enough food to feed them and send them home with leftovers . . . music . . . singing . . . dancing . . . laughter . . .
. . . if only in my dreams.

We finally took the plunge and bought some Christmas kangaroo lights for the garden!!!!! Super happy. We're also doing something new this Christmas and going out for Christmas lunch. My oldest is leaving home and the two youngest are super picky as they're on the spectrum too, so don't enjoy a cooked Christmas lunch. So it makes sense. But still, feels weird. But my wife is driving, so I'll just enjoy some Chardonnay in the sun :)

I like this time of year because peppermint is extremely common, I can freely buy toys for my own personal collection and no one questions me about it, and wind up music boxes are easily found in stores. I have so many Christmas/winter music boxes and I can display them without it looking awkward.
