Autism level 1 / Asperger syndrome supplement advice

The animal

New Member
Do a while back I was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome now Autismlevel 1, I function very well, I have a very good job that I am very good at, I independently travel I am now 33, I am healthy and dont take any prescription medications.

This all having being said I do have some things which I assume are common traits in that I am very routine driven, I can give examples if helpful but basically there has to be certain routines, I have started trying to fight against these with a moderate degree of success, now when I work I am getting up at 5-6 in the morning and tbe night before I am up yo about 1-2 not because I cant sleep but becuase I might be very involved like if I am on a computer game for example but this can go to extreme lengths for example if I am playing in a computer game and talking to someone I may start needing to pee at 6 in the evening but choose to delay it until about 7-7:30 but I obviously always make it to the toilet , I should also say that despite the lack of sleep I dont really feel tired or loss of energy the next day.

Another thing thats strange is I have very good reaction tomes at work but if I am playing an online game my reaction times are very bad, I am also very immature for my afe in that patents still cook, clean etc but again like pering I choose often to drlay eating, also I an quite awkward socially and have few friends but that bei g said no one rea,ly knows that I have this so I hide it well, but even when my few friends arrange a night out I go out and know thats what I should be doing but rush to go talking to people that are not as interested that what my real life friends are and I am aware of this but do it anyway, also I am quite clingy bur very cling both to people I talk to in real life and online, some other things is my coordination is not the best so for example I used to play tennis I was fine with my Forehand but not that good at navkhand, I do drink around 3 regular coffees and 1 tea each day and poor diet but I wouldn't be able to seitch to decaffe.

My question is and obviously any suggestions I would be checking with GP before starting this and I know there is no cure as such but my question is are there any widely available supplements preferably in shop and not online in UK that would be helpful with everything I have described tbat is safe with coffee and also alcohol as occasionally I have alcohol but not often that is safe to take on a daily basis preferably as few supplements as possible or stack if needed that dont effect blood pressure, kidneys etc, and that I can take before I leave in the morning and when I return home that compliment each other that helps in my specific situation and what times are best in my situation and shojkd this be every day even if at Weekends I lie in so usually get up later at this time not sure if it should make mucg difference and I should say in my specific situation at the beginning good chance my brain will naturally try and resist earlier sleeping paterns but obviously I am not looking for something which will sedate me more something that works with the brain to help the issues and am I better after a while to try and taper off the supplement or supplements or take them indefinitely

But I am not sure specifically in my situation what is best, I am guessing I am best with supplements which cross the blood brain barrier like Magnesium L threonine but I do t know if a combination is best and thought maybe someone here would have an idea, there is limited research online, ideally as I say it is with less supplements as possible that help specific to my traits but I understand it is most likely a stack but again also as I say o especially that don't interfere with anything such as blood pressure, kidneys etc but of course will check this before starting, I know what all the issues with me are specific to me going on in the brain, I just don't know what specific supplements work on it and also if they are designed to be used daily for life or to eventually to be tapered off but this is a good starting place for me to look at thanks

With over-the-counter products like so many supplements, I suspect it's a "hit-and-miss" proposition. Where you just have to experiment to see what works with your individual metabolism and what may not work. And to research how much and how often one should consume them. I know some of them can be toxic if taken too often or in high amounts.

An interesting subject. Frankly I was unaware if any specific supplements when it comes to autism. But they're out there. Though whether or not they are effective is anyone's guess when it comes to supplements in general. I still take multivitamins for people my age, autistic or not.

Fresh ground flax seeds are great source of omega 3.
There maybe a link between autiusm and wireless radiation. Avoidance is the best.

All of what you mentioned is development and it won't improve overnight, it takes years by definition, if given the right conditions. Autistic people might have dyspraxia, alexythymia, executive dysfuntion - those aren't good conditions to develop skills such as motor skills, self-care, emotional intelligence etc.

I am not looking for something which will sedate me more something that works with the brain to help the issues and am I better after a while to try and taper off the supplement or supplements or take them indefinitely
The issue in autism is overstimulation, so the brain is too activated. The solution is sedatives of various kinds. Some work better than others for specific people. You can also approach it without chemistry, behaviourally. Exposure to bright light, noise, itchy clothes, smells, lack of routine is bad on us.

I should also say that despite the lack of sleep I dont really feel tired or loss of energy the next day.
The lack of sleep might not be healthy in the long term regardless.

My question is and obviously any suggestions I would be checking with GP before starting this and I know there is no cure as such but my question is are there any widely available supplements....
I wish I had read this sooner, I would have replied immediately.

There are NO supplements that are going to assist with autism, and anyone that claims otherwise is either brainwashed or they stand to make lots of money out of telling lies. The link that @Judge provided is a classic example, one of it's recommendations is Vitamin B6.

The Australian Government has just threatened several pharmaceutical companies with legal action as well as starting a public information campaign about the dangers of excess Vitamin B6. For those in the US, this is one of the benefits of having a government run health system, it's in the government's best interests to look in to issues like this.

Thanks, so is there anything I can do, I know its not a quick fix and I know no cure but is there anything that could somewhat help even if not to a great degree

So is there any other steps I can take su h as CBT or anything like that although I understand that's unlikely to help with the motor co-ordination

Fresh ground flax seeds are great source of omega 3.
FYI: Flax and Chia seeds are great sources of omega 3...BUT...
AI Overview

Flax seeds contain phytoestrogens called lignans, which can influence hormone levels, particularly estrogen, in the body. These lignans, after being converted by gut bacteria, can mimic or modulate the effects of estrogen, potentially affecting conditions like menopausal symptoms. Flaxseed consumption can also affect other hormones like testosterone and prolactin, though the extent of these effects can vary.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
1. Phytoestrogens and Estrogen Metabolism:
  • Flax seeds are a rich source of lignans, a type of phytoestrogen.

  • These lignans are converted into mammalian lignans like enterolactone and enterodiol by gut bacteria.

    • These mammalian lignans have a structure similar to estrogen and can bind to estrogen receptors, potentially influencing estrogen levels and activity in the body.
    • Studies suggest flaxseed consumption can affect estrogen metabolism, as indicated by changes in urinary estrogen metabolites and serum hormone concentrations.
    • Flaxseed may also inhibit the enzyme aromatase, which converts androgens to estrogens, and modulate the activity of enzymes involved in estrogen balance.
2. Potential Effects on Hormones:
    • Estrogen:
Flaxseed consumption has been shown to reduce serum levels of 17 beta-estradiol and estrone sulfate in postmenopausal women. It may also influence estrogen metabolism and urinary excretion of estrogen metabolites.
    • Testosterone:
Some studies suggest flaxseed may reduce testosterone levels, particularly in cases of hyperandrogenism (excess testosterone), potentially reducing symptoms like hirsutism (excessive hair growth).
    • Prolactin:
Flaxseed consumption has been associated with increased serum prolactin levels in postmenopausal women.
3. Flaxseed and Menopausal Symptoms:
    • Due to the phytoestrogenic effects of flaxseed, it may help reduce some menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, by influencing estrogen levels.
4. Important Considerations:
    • While flaxseed has shown potential benefits, it's crucial to consult with a healthcare professional, especially if you have hormone-sensitive conditions like breast or ovarian cancer, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, according to Susan G. Komen.
    • Flaxseed might interact with certain medications, including antibiotics and those affecting blood clotting, so it's essential to discuss potential interactions with your doctor.
    • The effects of flaxseed on hormone levels can vary between individuals, and more research is needed to fully understand the extent of its influence on different hormones and conditions.

    • An alternative to fish, krill, chia, and flax is algae.

    • AI Overview

      Algae-sourced omega-3
is generally considered a good alternative to fish oil, especially for vegans and those concerned about sustainability. It provides the same essential omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA, as fish oil. While fish oil has been more extensively studied, algae oil offers a sustainable and often more palatable option with fewer concerns about contaminants.

      Here's a more detailed breakdown:
      Similarities:
      • Omega-3 Content:
        .

Both algae oil and fish oil are excellent sources of DHA and EPA, the two most beneficial omega-3 fatty acids for human health.

      • Health Benefits:
        .

Both oils offer similar health benefits, including supporting heart health, brain function, and eye health.
      Advantages of Algae Oil:
      • Vegan and Vegetarian Source:
Algae oil is a plant-based source of omega-3s, making it suitable for those following vegan or vegetarian diets.

      • Sustainability:
Algae can be cultivated in controlled environments, reducing the strain on fish populations and minimizing environmental impact.

      • Purity:
Algae is grown in controlled environments, minimizing the risk of contamination with heavy metals or other pollutants often found in fish oil.

      • Taste and Digestion:
Some individuals find algae oil to have a less fishy taste and to be easier to digest than fish oil.
      Advantages of Fish Oil:
      • Long History of Use:
Fish oil has been used as a supplement for a long time and has been well-studied, providing a strong body of evidence supporting its benefits.

      • Potentially Higher Concentration of EPA:
Some fish oil supplements may contain higher levels of EPA than certain algae oil supplements, but this varies.
      Considerations:
      • Bioavailability:
While algae oil and fish oil provide the same essential omega-3s, some studies suggest that the phospholipid form of EPA in algae oil might be more efficiently absorbed by the body.

      • Cost:
Algae oil supplements may be more expensive than fish oil supplements due to the controlled cultivation process.
      In Conclusion:
Algae oil is a viable and increasingly popular alternative to fish oil, offering similar health benefits while addressing sustainability and purity concerns. If you're looking for a vegan-friendly, sustainable, and potentially purer source of omega-3s, algae oil is a great option to consider.

So is there any other steps I can take su h as CBT or anything like that although I understand that's unlikely to help with the motor co-ordination
The biggest step you can take is to learn more about your sensitivities and about the way that your mind works.

Another thing thats strange is I have very good reaction tomes at work but if I am playing an online game my reaction times are very bad,
Our hand eye coordination works differently for many of us. I have extremely fine motor control for little fiddly things such as small machine parts and I also have superb balance but I was always hopeless at catching a ball.

I am up yo about 1-2 not because I cant sleep but becuase I might be very involved like if I am on a computer game for example but this can go to extreme lengths for example if I am playing in a computer game and talking to someone I may start needing to pee at 6 in the evening but choose to delay it until about 7-7:30 but I obviously always make it to the toilet , I should also say that despite the lack of sleep I dont really feel tired or loss of energy the next day.
This was very much me as well, still is but these days I don't have to work. I was always a good sleeper too, right up until a doctor prescribed me some SSRIs. That drug destroyed more than 50 years of good sleep habits and I still haven't recovered nearly 4 years later.

There maybe a link between autiusm and wireless radiation. Avoidance is the best.
1. In today's world, wireless radiation surrounds us. For the vast majority of people in the world, avoidance is not a practical reality.
2. I did pay attention to your language when you said "maybe", but as of right now, to be clear, there isn't any evidence to suggest a link. Association is not causation.
AI Overview

No, there is no conclusive scientific evidence to suggest that wireless radiation is a cause of the increasing number of autism cases. While some individuals and groups speculate about a link, numerous studies have found no direct association between exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) or radiofrequency radiation (RF) and autism.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • No direct link established:
Despite ongoing research, studies have consistently failed to demonstrate a causal relationship between EMF/RF exposure and autism.

  • Increased awareness and diagnosis:
The rise in reported autism cases is largely attributed to increased awareness of the condition, improved diagnostic criteria, and more comprehensive screening, rather than a rise in the actual number of cases, according to Scientific American and ABA Centers of America.

  • Genetic and other environmental factors:
Autism is a complex disorder likely caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

  • Misconceptions about radiation:
Many people mistakenly believe that everyday radiation from wireless devices can cause autism, but this idea is not supported by scientific evidence.

  • Importance of differentiating between radiation types:
It's crucial to distinguish between ionizing radiation (like X-rays) and non-ionizing radiation (like radio waves), as the latter is what wireless devices emit.

  • Ongoing research:
While current research doesn't support a link between EMFs and autism, some studies are exploring potential biological effects of EMF exposure, such as cellular stress and oxidative damage, but these are not directly linked to autism.
