The Purge (2013). It's set about 10 years in the future in the USA where crime and unemployment is almost non existent, apart from on 1 night a year for 12 hours where all crime is legal including murder (the annual purge). It's a film that makes you really think as it would effectively mean that the weak and vulnerable wouldn't survive. How would disabled people survive for instance like people with full autism? I would absolutely hate it, I'd probably go out with a small tent to find the most remote and hidden secret location possible in the middle of the country and just hide there for 12 hours, but I'd have the just hope my home was still there on return and I'd also have to worry about my fully autistic brothers and now elderly parents.

Basketball Diaries

Very loosely based on the true story of basketball hero/artist Jim Carroll. Googling the truth about this movie gives a good description of it.
A young Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jim Carroll in NYC...who quickly descends into a street nightmare of heroin & trouble. Though the movie is different from the actual story, it has good acting including Mark Wahlberg, excellent music & some hazy slow motion that is fitting.

In the movie the real Jim Carroll plays a charismatic cameo role as a heroin addict in a drug den who's talking to DiCaprio's character...his voice and eyes are chilling-as if he has seen beyond. I googled the real Jim Carroll and he has some amazing artistic connections/accomplishments.

Good movie. I wish more of Micheal Crichton's stories were made into movies. I'd suggest the book too if you haven't read it.

I really want to see this but, unfortunately, I no longer go to the cinemaplex, so I will have to wait till it comes out on DVD. I am a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro.

I watched Wild Strawberries, which was directed by Ingmar Bergman. He's a great director. I liked the film a lot, but I think I like The Seventh Seal even more.

I've just watched this too. In my opinion it's a poor excuse for masses of totally ridiculous and unbelievable action which soon becomes very boring without a decent story and script to back it up.

** IMPORTANT: If you haven't watched this movie and intend to then you might want to skip to the last sentence as the main paragraph below could spoil it for you...

** As a person with Aspies I couldn't list all the flaws and impossibilities in the script quick enough, E.g. all the world leaders / representatives attending a nuclear disarmament summit are hardly likely to be-able to simply open a suitcase to reveal a big red button to launch every single one of their country's nuclear missiles at an instant and I mean every single one as when they're destroyed they are totally disarmed and defenceless (so not 1 nuclear submarine has a single warhead left), LOL! Unfortunately the acting performances aren't any better either, E.g. world leader reactions are extremely tame considering the likelihood that the world is coming to an end and for the GI Joes it's just another day at the office. It's also one of those movies that is extremely predictable and you know the GI Joes will save the world by the skin of their teeth (Oh, sorry I hope I haven't spoiled it for anyone, LOL!).

Some children or younger teenagers might enjoy this movie better, but I didn't really enjoy it.
