Maybe you are right Slithytoves ,I don't call my self a genius...I call my self a small or sort of idiot savant, and I don't leave out the idiot part either. I freely admit there are a equal number of things I'm really bad at, that is just how it works. From the posts I've seen so far, I think "Reluctant" and "Humble" are the most common types around here.
As it should be, really. Most people I've met who actually call themselves geniuses are only so in their own mind. Genius is as genius does, and it's a term best conferred by objective observers.
Yes, for the wo/man on the street, that is true, but they do/did have clinical meanings, too.I still think that genius and retard are subjective terms.

Are those WAIS IQ scores, or are they percentiles? (It makes a difference.) If those are percentiles, that is actually a 35 point spread. You only have one outlier. The other three are about 15 points apart.Just took wais 4 last month.....my processing speed was 77 but everything else was 98 or 99.9. My verbal comprehension was greater than 99.9 and my non verbal was 98..memory 99. I have a spread of 22 points on processing speed....my future sessions with my doctor will be explaining more of what this means for me, so i will update this thread as i glean more information. Also, i think i tend towards pattern thinking as i notice patterns of principles from one subject matter to another.
Not true. There are objective standards. Being both Aspergers AND gifted, I get called both retarded AND Einstein by the fickle masses...., but as others have said it's a thing to be conferred by others.
I have been called both, also. It seems that if you say something that others don't understand then they may very well just assume you are stupid. I think it's a self defense mechanism for brittle egos. ..if they cant understand it, then someone must be an idiot and their brain can't handle the thought that it might be them. Not true. There are objective standards. Being both Aspergers AND gifted, I get called both retarded AND Einstein by the fickle masses.
Whenever I am asked if I am "in the closet" about being a geek or Aspie, I point out that I can't get the closet door to stay shut, even if I wanted to...Even at my low setting i can't pass as normal. But now, I'm not even going to try to pass as normal.
