What are you nerdy / geeky for?

When I was a kid, I always wanted one of those little model steam engines. My parents always thought they were stupid, because they didn't actually do anything but run. I still wanted one. Funny, I haven't given them any thoughts in years until now. :)

Music gear is a big one for me--keyboards, synthesizers, recording equipment, and microphones.

Another big one is computers--I love building them, from new parts or from used parts. Frankencomputers are fun, too. (Combining parts from two or more computers to form one.)

I've always been in awe over the construction of musical instruments. Particularly those of the strings group. To be able to make something like that from scratch...they are truly works of art. A bit beyond my carpentry skills though. :p

I can do basic repairs (replacing broken keys, buttons, etc), but modding is a bit out of my skill set. Last real repair I've done was replace the display contrast knob on my Kurzweil PC2X.

That reminds me of a ingredient the you see listed in some mixed meat products. "Mechanically separated chicken" I am not sure exactly what that is, but in my minds eye I see a crazed looking person, wildly throwing chickens into a machine that rips them to pieces. Perhaps they use a "Whiz Bang Chicken Separator"? Maybe your ex took that idea further than you think.

Quality didn't help the Germans when it came to the Second World War. It was all about quantity- mass production of T-34s and M4 Sherman tanks. The Germans were numerically and tactically overwhelmed by the Allies despite their superior designs.

As far as this particular tank went, there were only five made. It wasn't considered viable for mass production.
 
Language/linguistics, also Rome. I said I wasn't going to do another German language class, but here I am reading Emil und die Detective in German. I'm taking two other classes where we translate from Latin, a class on ancient mediterranean technology (oh yes) and a class about women in American Lit. Definitely a theme there.
 
comics, graphic novels, books (sci fi and fantasy normally, some historical fiction), board games, videogames, music, film:horror, sci-fi and fantasy, geology, history, science and table top role-play. plus a bunch of random interests like twine/choose your own adventure story's.
