the annoyance of textures

i hear from various sources it’s common with a lot of people on the spectrum but I don’t know for sure.
People always tell me I’m always picky about textures well yeah I am. It wouldn’t matter if it were clothes, certain objects, food or whatever I seem to pick and choose what I like. I don’t like hard surfaces that are both grainy and rough. I also don’t like bland textures.

This particular item thats kind of hard to describe its texture even though it feels rough makes me shake some when I touch or scratch it with my nails are those images that are holographic and changes images when you move it. Lenticular printied images I think that’s what they are called where the image have a 3-D look to them.

I also don’t like the rough side of sand paper and chalk boards as when I mess with them it feels like the palm of my hands will get dry and rough

There are some food textures that I will not taste again after trying it the first or second time. I’ll eat any fruit or vegetable out there except Bananas. For some reason I will not eat those I don’t like the mushy bland feeling as I’m chewing it. Any food that is bland with no seasoning or toppings I won’t eat.

I won’t wear sweat pants as they always feel tight and of course scratchy on my legs same goes for sweat shirts.

Does anyone else have a problem with some textures that y’all don’t like?

Yes, textures are a big thing for me. I don’t like touching animals or bugs. About the only living creatures that I’m not bothered by touching are people. I also struggle to find clothes that feel comfortable. It’s cotton all the way for me. You are definitely not alone in this.

yep, can't stand:
- light dusts on my fingers, chalk dust etc
- the feeling of raw egg yolk on my fingers
- texture of my sheets, blankets and pillows is also important
- light touch

Lots of textures I can't stand.
Clothes must be soft. Nothing stiff or rough. Can't stand Jeans although I think they are pretty.
Should see me shopping for clothes. Going around feeling them between my fingers.
Sheets microfibre only and soft plush blanket or I can't sleep
Foods vary. I guess the ones I hate the texture of the most are bread crusts and peanut butter.
Oh, yogurt too.
Yogurt is slimey. Peanut butter is just gross. Dry yet sticky.
Hard and crispy crust I don't like. Soft foods in general are my faves, yet I like potatoe chips.

I don’t like touching the type of bugs that have a hard and crunchy sound of the shell when you step on them. I’m talking about those flying beetles and cicadas any bug like those that flies around and bugs me lol

Why oh why would you kill a cicada? Please leave them alone. Cockroach yeah, but cicadas don’t harm anyone. I wonder why you feel the need to kill insects. Most do not harm us. If you cannot stand th sound of killing them, then don’t do it!!!!

Oh no no I do not kill cicadas!! They’re actually pretty cool!!
It’s mainly roaches that I kill since I find them a nuisance. most insect I do leave alone such as spiders. My friend hates them so he wants me to kill one if they’re near him but I just pick the spider up and move him somewhere else.
Could be why I never hunting cause the thought of killing a living breathing animal is not worth it to me.

I love textures! All of them. I have sensory issues with synthetic clothing (polyester, nylon, etc.) . I don’t like slimy things. That’s about it though. My sensory issues involve sounds.

I have some food texture issues. Eggs in any form (well, at least if it isn't in cake form), tomatoes, any fruits that have seeds. I also dislike the texture of certain unfinished woods. I used to work in a hobby store, & we sold basswood strips, popcicle sticks, etc for modeling & crafts. I had to get my co-worker price that stuff because it made my skin crawl. If I eat a popcicle of some sort I have to wrap the stick in the wrapper because it makes me uncomfortable. I'm sure there are others, but those are some of the big ones for me.

I have a problem with strawberries. I can’t stand the gritty taste they have with all of those seeds involved.

I felt the same way about them
when I was a child. I liked the flavor,
but the seeds were unpleasant.

My favorite part of strawberry shortcake
was the biscuit and the strawberry juice.
Didn't care about the strawberry itself.

I used to insist on having strawberry juice on my shortcake, no strawberries. Everyone in my family knew to save me some juice. Luckily they accomodated, though not without a little teasing.

I feel the same way touching insects, but eating them is less severe. I recently became an Entomophage because I wanted to not only challenge my aversion, but find a more effective means for consuming protein. The taste is unconventional but delicious.

I can't touch Styrofoam or walk on those foam mats that the put on the floor in preschools. I cant wear synthetic fibers. Bananas, beans, starchy or custardy foods. and sandpaper.

paper napkins.

I loathe and detest them. The scrunchy, not quite paper sound. The slight oiliness and the feel of napkin on napkin contact. I'd rather walk around with sticky, jammy fingers than face the horror of touching such a foul and fiendish object.

I'm looking at one right now, its very existence chills me to the bone.

I am very picky about clothing as some things make me feel like I’m suffocating. They have to be soft, semi-loose, but fit well. I cannot wear scratchy sweaters, anything with a turtle-neck, hosiery, heels, tight pants, overly baggy pants that touch the floor, or clothing that makes sounds when I walk and sometimes belts, depending on how easy they are to buckle and unbuckle. I like to walk around barefoot because socks make me feel hot, and then the surface I’m walking on has to be clean and smooth. I like to wear bracelets but necklaces feel abrasive when directly lying on my skin. If I’m not wearing clothing that feels right, it will affect my whole attitude.

For me, it's tomatoes; the gooey seeds and mush inside them. Eggs, can't stand fried eggs or soft boiled ones, omelettes aren't so bad... but it's also the smell I don't like. Any offal or gristley fatty bits in meat or bits of cartilage - I have to cut these off if I ever eat meat (which isn't so often). Cotton wool and some plastic materials, and for some reason the sheets in my mum's house - I think it's due to the brand of washing powder she uses.

Wow! That is intense. How would you feel about a cloth napkin?

I don't like slimy/slippery or scratchy textures....and my threshold for what counts as those things is apparently different than it is for others. (This is for tactile/skin.)

For food, I have problems with stringy and certain kinds of powdery/grainy textures as well as slimy ones. Also don't like mixed textures.
