Names and Faces don't work in my head, "What kind of Shoes are you wearing?"

Everyone that knows me notices these things about me:

I never look anyone in the face when I talk to them.
I don't know most peoples names, even people I see on a semi-regular basis.
If you ask me what someone looks like, I don't have a clue.
If you refer to someone by their name, I usually don't know who you are talking about.
If you ask me what kind of shoes someone is wearing, I know the answer.

When friends talk to me, they don't refer to other people by their name, they refer to them by the shoes they are wearing. I am often told things like; "Give this to the woman in red high heels", or "The guy in black sneakers has a question for you". It sounds funny, but it actually works for me. I am guessing this is a typical Aspie trait??

Is there other "shoe people" like me? I like how the people that know me work around the name and face issue, does anyone else have "name and face" problems like this? If so, how do you deal with it?

I always used to say "Everyone should wear name tags". Now I say, "Everyone should wear very distinct shoes".

If anyone has any input on this subject, or if you want to share with us what kind of shoes you wear, please do. I almost feel handicapped online because I don't get to see what shoes people are wearing when chatting in the ShoutBox or reading their posts

HAHA,Holly! I actually laughed: doesn't happen often.

@ShoesRUs: To help with your handicap, I'm wearing beige shearling booties most of the time when I'm here. Failing that, just picture plain black socks. Come to think of it, I do notice people's footwear. The problem with identifying people by their shoes here is that so many people have so many different ones that it would be impossible! I can recognize a person by their voice & their accent, the types of words they tend to use & how loudly or softly they speak. As far as faces go, people tend to look all the same to me. Then, too, they're always making radical changes to the way they look.
