Hello all I am new here, my name is Debra and my son just turned 9 and has Aspergers. He has been officially evaluated and diagnosed. I knew since he was very young but with my husband having a family member who has mental disabilities he would always dismiss my claims to drs and such which held back on getting the proper care for him. He also was born with GERD and had other medical issues which seemed to take the front.
However in school it has been mixed support. Seems the ESE teacher is so willing to help, some teachers have been great others just borderline abusive to my son. He is very caring and sweet in nature but can get very easily frustrated. He does not have fits in school but does get angry at times if pushed to hard in the wrong direction. Last year was very bad, his teacher was not at all willing to help support or encourage him. Her saying was no goal system no support they have to listen the first time and that is it. That teacher about ruined my son and his eagerness to learn or trust a teacher. She was very discouraging and honestly mean to him. Now this year he has a good teacher that is trying very hard and she is reaching him and his interaction is so much better. But I worry about next year and the next as he still has many years left. So can I ask for some personal experiences as to how it has been for you or your child. I am leaning towards a different special type of autistic school as I am lucky enough to have one semi local and I am more than willing to drive him.
So please share as I do not have any other input besides others who have experienced this themselves. Thank you very much
