For domestic power infrastructure Sodium Ion is the way to go. It doesn't get hot, it's half the price and it has a higher energy density.

Brisbane's suburban bus service has been exclusively running on Canola oil for 20 years now. They report that power and fuel economy are identical to running on diesel but they noted one huge difference. With canola oil they don't get any where near as much carbon and tar build up in the cylinders and it has cut their maintenace costs dramatically.

You can treat waste veggie oil with lye to make it as fluid as regular diesel. I've done it. Heavy machine operators often use a rig that starts the engine on regular desel, but then runs it on straight veggie oil thinned by exhaust heat.

Where the geography has possibilities, pumped hydro power is still the cheapest storage. If I were setting up off-grid, I'd consider using the wind to pump water, and only make electricity as needed.

About 33 years ago, I was at a tech conference, and got a bonus lecture for over an hour from one of the world's top battery experts. He figured that battery performance had pretty much peaked. We'd never get the mercury out of Alkaline cells, or get lighter batteries for electric cars. Now, there seems to be news about new chemistries and constructions every month, and many of them seem plausible.
I wonder if someone will try using a built-in mechanical element to remove dendrites.
