Post something Weird or Random

I live in a country that is known for oil and gas, so there has been a lot of discussion about this here. Some say we have to shut it all down now, the entire oil industry. But if we do that, other countries will just increase their production. And the thing is, we have the cleanest oil industry on earth, all the newest high tech equipment, everything is done as green and nature friendly as possible. Many other countries have a much worse oil industry, they pollute more. So if we stop and they increase production, it actually gets worse. It's a conundrum.
I only know the situation in the UK, and it's so disgusting, it's going to be written up in history, if we're left with much of one, as one of the worst. The hypocrisy is stunning, the profits obscene and the mendacity of the people involved, who feel their wealth will protect then and their family from the worst of of it, while failing to understand the true nature of what been done, and is getting worse all the time. I mean, all those COP's, and we're worse than ever. And the next one is presided over by the oil industry! And the 'reason' is that it brings them closer to a climate-change positive attitude! Seriously? Sorry, but this whole thing makes me sick to my stomach, and seeing it going on, so blatantly before our eye's, if all we do is choose to look, and so few do.

15 years ago all the other countries got upset with us because we refused to sign up to the Kyoto Agreement.

Kyoto - Japan.

We went down our own path and now we're in the process of ending all oil gas and coal production, after 2040 it will no longer be legal except under special license for domestic industrial needs.

Now Japan - Kyoto - reckons that we're going to disrupt global economies and risk world peace because we're not going to be selling them any oil or gas in the future.

[Edit] Aussies do not kow toh. :)

Could it be that being so vulnerable to climate change and pollution et al, Australia has had to face reality far sooner, and maybe also, the different attitude there (as I perceive) of being closer to nature, and more reliant on each other for survival (if not in the immediate, in the cities, certain not so long ago, by only a generation or two)?

This is certainly true for our water resources, as far as water supply is concerned we're pretty much at our maximum population now, there's not a lot to spare. As many irrigators have recently been finding out.

Other than that, getting all the political parties to declare where all their income was coming from and disallowing anonymous donations really sorted a lot of things out for us.

There is an old rock song about the little old lady from Pasadena. This was a real person, who, perhaps, had a warranty on a new car. She would take it to the drag races, and while everyone else was spinning their tires, she would be slipping the clutch instead, which gives more traction. Now, all the top dragsters do a burnout to warm up their tires and make the track sticky, but they get pushed back to the starting line, and a pre-set mechanism slips the clutch according to the crew chief's best guess.

I don't care how much they love you, do not approach a Chihuahua with a milkbone. Even if they were all happy and wagging their tail when you just gave it too them.
