Poetry (do you write it? Do yo like slam poetry?)

I have written poetry for as long as I can remember. As long as I knew how to write. I think in pictures and I can connect it to flowery wording in a way I can't do writing in a narrative structure. Does anyone else here write poetry?? I would love to start a little poetry group or something.

I also love slam poetry here is a poem filled with autistic joy

I like writing poetry--I tend to write a lot more metrical stuff though. Something about working in the framework of it is nice. Not a huge fan of writing free verse; I've tried but never got into it.

ahh see I love free verse and that is most of what I write I would love to learn more about other styles. I am all in for a poetry club if we can get enough people interested. We could write poetry and share it maybe write poetry based on prompts idk the options are endless. Either way I love a way to connect with others about shared interests like poetry.

I've been writing since I was in my early teens. It is a very therapeutic and private experience for me, and I have a very hard time sharing it with others at times. I'm trying to get better about that I wouldn't say that I have any particular style. I write whatever spills out of me.

That's fair I have poems I never plan on sharing because they can be so personal I agree I write with my emotions so whatever comes out is what I write. It's very good for emotional processing.

Hello! It's good to be back. My transition program has been mostly good thus far I work at an art gallery/studio space now and I am happy.

I enjoy Haiku, but there are no books of saijiki for English that I have found useful.

I used to write poetry, and I enjoy reading it. Poetry slams are a particular thing and can be fun. But for me, mostly poetry isn't loud or dramatic or declaimed. Although of course it can be. The slam thing is pretty much for outgoing people and/or people who can perform poems. Sometimes they are amazing!

I love Mark Dotys work. And a big range of others.

I would love to learn about free verse! I grew up with poetry served the old way--Verse what rhymes & has meter, structure, and all that. Free verse is definitely important but I know very little of it.

I cut my teeth on e. e. cummings. Free verse at its finest.

I'm not a poet myself, but was heavily involved with a local Poetry Slam a "few" years ago, I was the official photographer for the monthly slams between roughly 2007 and 2015, and also for a yearly Spoken Word Festival run by the same group

Great memories for me, I met (and photographed) lots of well known poets at that time, saw some incredible performances...

I have written a lot of poetry, but my stuff is always light-hearted and silly. There are a few serious poems that I like, but mostly I love pure, concentrated nonsense. I love Ogden Nash, Gillette Burgess, Dorothy Parker, Piet Hein, Wallace Irwin, Henry S. Leigh.

I try to write stuff that's fun. I enjoy trying to put clever endings and word play in my poems.

I'm kind of stuck on rhyme and meter - I would never write anything without trying to make the meter perfect, but I do like some free form poems. Warning, by Jenny Joseph is a favorite of mine.

Here's one of mine:

"Once upon a time, the end."
That's the story of the snake.
It's got a head and it's got a tail,
but it's got no middle, for goodness sake!

The longest snake is the the shortest tale.
I wish it had more for us,
Than the sad concatenation
Of an Apatosaurus.

Which well-known poets did you photograph?

I have met and photographed Bob Holman, a fairly well known poet (I think), a rather interesting fellow... And I'm not sure how many truly famous poets exist, many are well known within the community itself... Most people I've met are Canadian poets, as that is where I live...

I have been writing poetry since I was 13 years old. I was inspired by my aunt-in- law DeDe to do so. I'm grateful for her for seeing a gift in me that was given by God. I have been published in some books pertaining to autism and getting paid. I'm published in Sincerely, Your Autistic Child and All The Weight of Our Dreams under Ondrea Marisa Robinson. And I was told that I was the next Maya Angelou. I'm honored. The late poet in her one right is one of my favorite poets.
