One of these days, Alice.

As for the actual question of the thread, I'm not sure why people want to colonize the moon.😕
I am having trouble accepting that a science nerd (Bible believing or not) would NOT be interested in colonizing the Moon. It may be my thinking is a bit skewed (or more likely broken), but I am an explorer. That was not just my career, but is the essence of my being. Any geologist worthy of the name will practically have an orgasm over the prospect of having an entire new planet (or even moon) to do field work in and figure out.

One of these days Alice.webp

I follow this topic closely. We do have the technology right now. It would be relatively "primitive"... maybe a bit dangerous, at times, but yes.
I thought our little friend was focusing on Mars. 🤔

That said, that tech is on a truly rapid exponential curve of advancement. What we will have in 2026 and 2028 and 2030 will seem like sci-fi as compared to 2025. We are living in some amazing times with regards to all of this.
I hope so.
I don't have decades left in me, so a little excitement...
...other than a nuclear holocaust...
...would be nice.
Some ACTUAL aliens would be icing on the cake. 👽

"One of these days, Alice" is a tag line from a 1950s American sitcom. I've never seen the show but sometimes heard the phrase when I was growing up.
I have seen the reruns.
I am showing my age.
It is so politically incorrect that I can't imagine it is still available in the general public TV media.
I'd like to know if this isn't the case.

Threatening your spouse with physical violence is out of fashion these days.
I wonder why? 🤔😛

@Shamar I had two chemistry sets and an electromagnetic kit as a kid and loved playing with both. Even prior to being old enough for those, I would test cause and effect with things like water pressure. My favorite subject was science and I would seek friendship as a child by asking other children what their favorite subject was and sharing science facts that I had learned or things I had noticed while experimenting. I would also disect plant parts and take apart electric gadgets and try to figure out how the gadgets worked. Even when very young, I would follow insects around with a magnifying glass and say that I was "sciencing" them. There is a previous comment on this thread where I listed a few of my childhood experiments. That said astronomy in particular was never that high up the list of preferred science fields and I was not a fan of science fiction which living on the moon sounds a bit like. Of course it could be interesting to compare moon rocks to earth rocks or moon soil to earth soil, but I don't intend to travel on no space ship to do it.

You sound like just as much an explorer as I am, we just explore different things.

There IS a focus on Mars, but the Moon, with 1/10th the gravity and ice to make rocket fuel, potentially makes it a better base of operations. Mars is one the goals, but as they say, "You need to get your ducks in a row, first." Now, can we begin launching, via Starship, equipment and robots to Mars right now to set up the Mars base? Sure, but it would be slow going and take up a lot of fuel and time... and I do think, given the sense of urgency, that it will start soon... this year. The Moon will be a base of operations not only for Mars, but in the more immediate future, launching AI data centers and solar power arrays into space. The factory SpaceX is currently building in Florida will be capable of producing 1000 Starships per year! Absolutely nuts! This is a team that is capable of building Gigafactories and Megafactories within 2 years. Tesla has already begun production on the Optimus robots that will be the workers, not only on Earth, but out in space and on Mars... with a goal of 50,000 units in 2026 and 1,000,000 units in 2027! Tesla is beginning production on their own AI chip Gigafactory and the same for significantly ramping up solar panel production. The Boring Co. is doing well... and this equipment will be needed for Moon and Mars bases... underground for radiation protection in these environments. The chess pieces are moving... and quickly. Within 10 years, people would have forgotten that Tesla even made an electric car, because of this pivot towards AI, robotics, and space. "Our little friend" has a vision, a sense of urgency, and is vertically integrating as much as he can so he is not dependent upon 3rd party production... his vision of "scale" is far beyond anyone's imagination, so he just creates it all himself.

There are some "so called" lost episodes available for streaming on Pluto, from the original series. I believe there is also a color episode from the Jackie Gleason show which did honeymooners segments from time to time, as Jackie Gleason was the creator of the show in the first place. Art Carney played Ralph Kramden's friend, Ed Norton (a sewer worker most of the episodes). I remember that character as being the funniest thing about the show,

Yeah. Sad to think another moon landing will probably be it for me. Though mars would be better.

Hell, I'm all stoked up about the upcoming Winter Olympics tomorrow as I may not be around for the next one. ;)

I liked the show. Even throught it felt politically incorrect .

I only watched a few episodes.
I guess I was too young to fully appreciate it at the time.

Was the I Love Lucy show running at roughly the same time?
I watched that more than The Honeymooners.
"Lucy, you got some 'splaining to do!" lol
