Just One Photo From Today

Trying to save my Florist Kalanchoe from overwatering it... Sadly I noticed it too late and while the roots were still okay, the stem is where it started rotting. Hopefully it'll survive. I know I can just buy another one, but I don't want to let it die without a fight, specifically because it was my fault. Sigh.

That's the wrong soil mix for a plant susceptible to rot. The polystyrene balls hold water. What you need is a Rose mix, it has sand instead of polystyrene for good drainage.

Yeah i also found info that it needs to have some succulent type of soil. Ah, will buy that soon

Just dirt from your back yard would probably do the trick as long as it's more sandy than clingy like clay.

I'm afraid it'll have some parasites or bacteria which plant won't like, but thanks for the info
My mum used to do this - put the right amount of dirt in a plastic bag and microwave it on high for a couple of minutes. :)

Your post reminds me of planting a rose bush, actually more like a cutting, many years ago. I watered it and it started turning brown so I watered it again. Then again. Finally, I saw that I'd drowned it. I was living in a western desert part of Texas and thought it was thirsty. Only afterwards did I discover that roses don't need a lot of watering.

What a brilliant mum you have!

velociraptor, your photo could be the origination of a thread, "posting a selfie." Yours is nice and revealing.

Yep. With a bit more "drama" if presented in black and white.

After all, Ansel Adams wasn't just a great landscape photographer....
