I have a new 4 legged companion in my life now

I have a new 4 legged companion in my life, a 4 month old yellow lab puppy and I rescued him today. We were crushing cars and heard something was not right hearing a yelping noise one car. It was a yellow lab puppy someone put him in the with me finding them. I said call the police and luckily it was caught in the cameras, dumped in 9:00 last night. Found whom did it and was arrested for animal cruelty. I decided to keep him and took him to the vet getting checked out. Everything looked good and named him Gabe. So far Gabe is doing well adapting to my home. I had one before that I had to put down in November that was 12 years old.

Congratulations on your new friend, and thank you so much for being so kind and wonderful to rescue him :)
Dogs are the best. I have a rescue dog too.

Very sad. Then just tonight I saw a news story about a woman who tried to get her dog onto a flight at the airport and the dog didn't meet the requirements as a therapy/support dog. The woman just stormed off, leaving the dog tethered to a counter.

The police were able to catch her as she tried to leave the airport, charging her with animal cruelty. Hopefully the dog will have a new home soon. What is wrong with such people ?

Ugh... tetrapods...!

Congratulations. Rescues seem to be much more appreciative than bred dogs. One time walking in the desert I found 4 puppies, about 2 weeks, covered with ticks, by the side of the road. I put hem in a box, gave them water, and took them to a shelter. I could not keep one at the time, but the attendant assured me they would have no trouble adopting them. They were just dumped out there to die. It makes my blood boil every time I think about it.

Sadly that's quite normal for 90% of the population. They'll never admit it, most won't even admit it to themselves, but as soon as a pet becomes inconvenient they'd rather dump it in some discreet manner than admit that they don't love animals as much as they pretend.

It does too with me and my last one was a rescue as well, owner abandoned them. Ended up putting that one down due to their back legs were giving out and admit it was not an easy decision to make

Someone left a puppy in a car in a junkyard? This world is too ugly for me sometimes. 😔 It really gets to me. I see stories like this one and feel an urge to put up a tall fence to keep the world out and never leave home.

Maybe you should check some websites posting positive news, like for example:
The Good News Network: Positive Stories 24/7

The world is not all doom and gloom, it's just easier to focus on dark moments.

I wish the local and network news would just dedicate 1/2 their news to only good news... or perhaps a dedicated 1 hour program once or twice a week to only good news. I think it would be "good medicine" for some people.

I think it is common knowledge that human beings are "negatively wired"... hence the news mantra, "If it bleeds, it reads." but you know, it gets to be too much... and after the news, you're left feeling not so good. I don't know why the fascination with horrible things happening to other people that makes us tune in... and then walk away feeling crappy. That phenomenon is quite disturbing when you think about it.

I know that this is one of many reasons why some people have stopped watching the news. Being "blissfully unaware" is a double-edged sword... because being ignorant presents it's own set of problems.

At any rate, thanks for the link. :)

Right now l follow the news, and yes, it has been pretty depressing. The job market is tanking, foreclosures are up, and so on. So this thread was great to read, and what a neat name for a dog. We named our spoiled little dog Obie, and my daughter picked Cutie for her kitten.
