I have a new controversial onion that really has me in tears!

Oh dear! I'm not sure what to do?! Eat round the onions? Or eat round the ice-cream? Maybe it's nice and I just need to learn to break with convention?

So, what's up with Vidalia onions?

Most onions contain about 5 percent sugar, while Vidalias contain a whopping 12 percent. That, combined with the lack of sulfur from Vidalia soil, makes them sweeter and milder than other onions on the market.
In Toombs County and surrounding counties sulfur levels are low. Low levels of sulfur result in a milder taste with less heat. This elemental soil deficiency was used as a marketing strategy to keep the Vidalia onion a Georgia-only commodity.

Georgia was also known for its bloody civil war sites.
Some speculate this is part of the reason for the sweet flavor of the Vidalia onion's
body.
