Hottest day of the year (so far)

Went to Ely again. First stop - le supermarché, to load up on the big fruit. Walked through town and sat out by the cathedral, eating grapes and feeding the birbs.

Headed off to the library and spent a few hours on my latest drawing. Started feeling quite lonely and isolated so I headed home. Reached out to a few friends online and had some nice conversations.

I've spent the whole day eating nothing but fruit and drinking various teas with herbs in. Spent a few hours getting quarter of the way through a new book.

Now I've made a big salad that I'm going to demolish.

As I told HR at work - if I can't care for myself, then how can I care for other people? I'm glad that my client feedback was good. I just need to make sure I'm looking after myself, so that I can bring my best to each person who I look after.

I'm approaching self-care with a determination that comes with sobriety. I'm tired of disassociating through weed and comfort eating. I deserve to feel good, and a good diet and self-care are the building blocks to this.

Wow, you inspire me. Hot days deserve cucumbers for sure!
.
I haven't seriously done a drawing in years. I have barely started one recently. I normally start with eyes. This time I started with negative space in the mouth to make scary teeth.
.
I want to be inspired to do more.

Definitely we need to stay inspired. We fall off track and wonder what is all for? Salads, great architecture, and art!

That architecture is the most grand thing I've seen.

Inspiration is a cure for most ailments that leave you gobsmacked!!!

It's so hot in klein-karoo that instead of energy drinks (bad) I bought naartjie game drink which is isotonic and I'm testing to see if it's good for dehydration or fatigue.

Here's some photos I took of inside the cathedral. I'm blessed to have it so close by. My brother went to Kings Ely which is a private school there which owns and uses many of the medieval buildings in Ely. The city centre is full of medievail buildings. And it's only a city because of the cathedral, in reality it's a town. The school my brother went to had it's services in the cathedral, and I was lucky enough to attend one. There is nothing quite like the sound of hymns filling up such a vast building.

The Fens all used to be marshland until it was drained hundreds of years ago. It's flat as far as the eye can see, and Ely is on a hill. It's known as the Isle of Eels and it was the last stronghold after the 1066 Norman invasion. In fact, the army marched through the village I live in, then into Aldreth which is the hamlet next to us. They followed a fenland causeway all the way to Ely. Supposedly a monk told them how to access the island and they defeated the last of the rebels to finally finish the Norman conquest of England.

You can see the cathedral for many miles around. It's called the ship of the Fens. At night it's lit up, and from far away it has an eerie ethereal glow, and looks like a ghost ship. It's quite magical. This is the view from the edge of Haddenham, which is also on a hill. This was using my telefoto lens on max zoom on a hazy, summer day - the cathedral is 8.8km straight line distance:

In the final photo you can see the right side of the cathedral actually collapsed many centuries ago on the left side. Originally it was the traditional cross shape building. But the foundations gave way and it collapsed. In my first photo in the original post you can probably make out the damaged bits, and where the original internal arch was bricked up.
