Hi everyone,

My name is Kristen. I was diagnosed as level one autistic four years ago. I also have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and mast cell activation syndrome. I'm originally from North Dakota, USA, but have been in British Columbia, Canada since my early teens. I work in research communications and I host a podcast about late-diagnosed autism. I've gotten really involved in self-advocacy; I love music, television, true crime, and medical topics; and I live alone with my cat, Toby. My ancestry is mainly Norwegian, Irish, British, and French, but I recently found out I also have some Coptic Egyptian ancestry!

Hello. I see it says "Hovet" in your signature, that's an interesting name. Many people have it as a surname here and there are several farms, towns, places and even a few churches with that name. It's an old word.

Hi! Yes, it's my surname. My father's side is Norwegian, so I think our surname comes from a town with the same name in Norway. Jeg snakker litt norsk.

Welcome aboard. It's a wonderful community. I felt blessed when I found such an understanding and wholesome place.

I can't say I've heard of the 2 syndromes you have. I found with struggles, it can help recalibrate what we find important in life. Whilst they can be thoroughly taxing and unpleasant at times - there's a wholesome and worthwhile journey to be found within.

Mind you, some days it's just nice to hibernate and eat cake.

Toby reminds me of the US Office character. Also Toby jugs, which are rather creepy looking pottery in the UK.

Toby was indeed named after Toby on The Office. He happens to be one of my favourite characters. I've never heard of Toby jugs, but just Googled them. Definitely creepy!

@kristenmh Did you read the theory Toby might be the Scranton Strangler? It made sense, but I shan't let it sully him.

Even so, he was a loveable character, understated and defeated - but he had such wonderful moments in some scenes.

I've had 5 cats over the years. Beautiful creatures. Next for me it's time to get a dog. I grew up with 2 and they fill me with joy when I encounter them.

That word, Hovet, goes all the way back to the vikings. It comes from the old Norse word "hov", which was the name of sacred places, places devoted to worship. But anyway, welcome to the forum.
 
Welcome. I have Norwegian also, l account it to me being very stubborn, unless that's the German part. Welcome to the forum. We are very lucky to have you at this site.
