Have you found out what your brain does best and worst?

I'm still in the process, but I seem to have a good handle on a list of best and worst tasks.

Best tasks are usually energising and you can do them all day. Some best tasks actually reduce my overload.

Best tasks;

Strategy - I can formulate strategies with very little effort, and I do it automatically at times. I had to mess about with Windows 10 the other day, and while I was fixing the PC, my brain was chattering about M$ strategy to lose friends and alienate people. It's remarkably effective.
Design & creation - website design, graphic design (I'm not that great at GD).
Hardware & software fiddling - this requires close to zero effort as long as I'm alone.
Writing and blogging - needs to be a passion or I'm not going to do it.

Worst tasks;

Managing anything as part of a daily routine.
Running meetings with more than two people - I can do one or two, just about, but more is a killer.
Managing finance.
Filling out any form longer than contact details. (What do they MEAN by that question! AArgh)
I can plan, and build strategies, but cannot maintain anything - ever.

Bottom line; I'm a builder, a fixer and a prototyper - I'm not a manager or maintainer.

I'm going to have to have a good old think about this @ fullsteam.

I would hate to state a fact about myself that wasn't absolute in all cases.
I like the idea of this topic though :)

Maybe a better idea - get them down right now and tweak as you identify more.

It's not possible to be 100% accurate about this information as;

Your brain is biological wonder and the most complex thing in the known universe (they say that about NT brains for gods sake! What must ours be like on a cosmic scale?!!)

You are not your body, your mind or your brain, and it's easy to get that muddled when you do this kind of stuff. :)

We are talking about the best and the worst of the organism really, not "You" as that's a much harder topic that gets into stuff about the nature of reality.

Best: My problem-solving skills stand out far ahead of the rest. Probably because I've always had to figure things out for myself with little or no guidance. What it means in a practical sense, right now, is that I can wrap my head around complex systems and even troubleshoot systems I know little to nothing about.

Worst: Anything involving imagination. My mother did a damn good job of crushing any sort of imagination I had as a child. Have I mentioned I hate her?

I love this question. For me, this is one of the biggest questions with autism: I’m a non-standard model and the standard owner’s manual won’t work. So, I have to write my own owner’s manual. At the very least, I need a chapter for features and a chapter for troubleshooting.

What I do best:
  • Learn a new system, analyze the system, start modeling it, take it apart, then do things with it that no one has done before. It can be a mathematical system, programming system, game, legal system, anagrams, ... anything with a set of rules. I can take a simple thing and find every variation of every thing you can do with it, every unintended consequence of every rule. It also means that I can find every way to abuse any system - I bury a lot of those and just show people the good stuff.
  • Memorize stuff. I mean, I do it just for fun sometimes.
  • Math. It’s the system I’m best at. I question and second-guess everything I do and everything I think ... except math. I am 100% confident when I am talking math and I don’t back down.

What I do worst:
  • Stop. It’s nice have a brain that can go 100 miles per hour, but how do you stop this dang thing? I hear of people “vegging out” and I just want to kneel in front of them like Steven Strange and say, “Teach me!”
  • Obsess over and relive every painful, awkward mistake. I mean, I’m not worst at it. I am great at it. And that’s not good.
  • Deal with the unexpected.
  • Connect with people, at that deep emotional level you hear about. I have connected with a few people, and am grateful for that. But in general ... I just don’t know how to talk to people, how to listen, and how to say the understanding things. I just haven’t learned all the rules of this system, yet.

That's EXACTLY how I've always seen it.

As I kid I used to think I needed a manual for this brain & body, yet no one else seemed to need one.

Still, any idiot can drive a Nissan Micra - F1 cars need a bit more training and time to master!

Best: Problem-solving.
Accounting and financial managing.
Memory through visualising what I saw like looking
at a photo.
Planning how to do things in the most efficient ways.
Visualization of designs and technique.
Mapping out a route when driving somewhere.
Prefer my directional skills above a GPS.
And head games.

Worst:
Difficulty communicating verbally so others understand
what I am trying to explain.
Knowing social replies or expectations. Such as the
Good day, how are you greetings and answers.
Handshakes and other physical expressions that seem to be everyday norms.
Understanding humour most of the time.
And keeping anxious thoughts under control.

Best: organistation. Worst: disoranistion.
Best: accounts and financies. Worst: mathmatics lol
Best: knowing what is going to happen. Worst: not knowing what is going to happen.
Best: one to one. Worst: group ( where on earth do your eyes go)?
Best: being asked questions. Worst: me having to ask questions.
Best: getting to know something. Worst: being ignorant.
Best: one day of intense action. Worst: two days or more. ( Hubby says to me: I don't know why you have organised to do that, when the day before, you are going to be very busy? Me: trying to work through it; hopeful; optimistic: result: hubby is right)
Best: when something is logic to me; all go. Worst: when something is illogical, my brain will not work for me.

The best to be honest for me it's just managing to be alive as I live alone and try to care for four cats .
The worst is just everything else being in poor health makes everything else too hard to complete .
I think it used to be remembering things like song lyrics or short codes !to things that were important to me.

I don't have any Aspie superpowers, but my strengths are:

Learning and analytical thought
Attention to detail
Good long-term memory
Problem-solving (
Honest, reliable.
Objectivity.

Weaknesses:

Social interaction, networking.
Working in a team.
Multitasking.
Organizing, tidiness.
Working under pressure.

Best tasks:

Systems analysis and logistics
working with minimal supervision
creative approaches & brainstorming
organizing, creating, and presenting informative materials
pick up new software quickly
telling you where you went wrong :D

Worst tasks:

unvarying rote tasks
dealing with the public (I do it well, but it fries my brain)
anything requiring excessive appearance requirements (having my hair yanked into place, coating my lower half in crawly tights or hose, putting me in heels, and giving me restricting, itchy, garments; and you better keep all blunt and sharp objects away from me)
small group things with people who won't do small group things

What I’m better at:
Creativity
Writing (I write better than I talk)
Managing finances at home
Good memory for things like Greek Mythology, doll collecting or just stuff that is my interest
What I struggle with:
Socialising
Remembering people faces
Maths, even though I’ve improved a lot when it comes to managing money
Eye contact issues
Clumsy as hell
Broken sarcasm meter
Takes everything literally
Daydreams a lot
Disorganised and I get overwhelmed easily.
