I live about 111 miles(187 kilos to our metric members) from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania where every year on this day,a traditional ceremony is held there the prognosticator, Punxsutawney Phil is watched closely to determine how much longer the winter will last.
Rumor has it that Phil saw his shadow this morning on Gobbler's Knob that indicated that we will have six more weeks of winter in my area.

Groundhog Day 2018: What is Punxsutawney Phil's forecast?

Winter? Interesting concept. Phil better bring his sunglasses if he shows up here.

Should be in the mid 60s today.

I was in Balzac (Alberta) this morning for Balzac Billy's forecast, he called for an early spring... Despite how cold it was... Brrrr

Down here a ground hog is sausage... not a weather man -mammal.

Sorry I couldn't help myself.

Something to do with Spring coming right. And the meaning of the phrase, "like Groundhog day" is like...?

More like old school folklore, it seems to go back to ancient German traditions... These days it's pretty much for fun, a great way to develop community spirit... Our "groundhog" near Calgary (see my photo above) is just an excuse to get together and celebrate community spirit at what can be a brutal time of year for weather, it was -18 Celcius here this morning, still -18 Celcius right now...

I liked the movie, but, don't believe in the Ground Hog
predictions of weather.
@Chance - Like you, I'll have another sausage please!;)

So I guess it's sort of like May Day. In a way.

I suppose that depends on one's concept of May Day.

In this instance no troops, no tanks, no Marx, Engels or Lenin.

Just a hapless groundhog, his shadow and a crazed meteorologist to unduly upset him in a crowd.

Kind of like "Seinfeld's Day". A day about uh.....nothing, really.
