Do I have to become like my older brother?

One of life's greatest sarcasms is that most of the things we take for granted are the things we cannot control or can't even do anything about.

For instance, no one can control their genetics or how they look yet good looks are heavily rewarded upon by women.

It's like life was designed to cause us to fail from the beginning by giving us bad looks and bad genetics.

The same thing is true for women. Perhaps it is even worse for women who are not naturally endowed with "good looks" because society places a higher value on a woman's looks than a man's. Mature people know that good looks are superficial and fade with age.

People like my older brother also make fun of or even downright scorn women who aren’t considered “hot” or “sexy.” It makes my boil because it also devolves into racism and xenophobia of all sorts. He will express contempt for “exotic women” even if they are considered attractive. I don’t want to be like that at all.

I never really had any healthy attitudes towards women expressed to me in my developmental years when I think about it now. They were mostly hormonal driven and prejudice based ones.

It looks like nothing anybody can say regarding this topic
has any effect at all on your thinking.

I am just still socially isolated and I worry that opportunities have been diminished for me.

Dude - I tried to help you. Really.

You say you're afraid of missing out on things and want to do things. I tried to assist you with asking for a day off so you could attend a writing workshop you had expressed interest in. But you didn't answer and the thread is closed.

I just can't anymore.

Do not make assumptions about me.

You spoke to your manager and requested the day off or to be scheduled another day so you could attend, yes?

My assumption is no.

Am I incorrect?

Please prove me wrong.

I sent in a request to him today. I’ll have to talk to him later since he’s not currently in the building.

That's awesome!

For whatever it's worth, I was mistaken in thinking you closed your thread. I was wrong about that and I'm sorry for implying it.

I really hope you enjoy that writing session and learn some new things and are able to get out and enjoy the socialization, even if it's just for the one day. You never know when you will find something you really like.

I hope your parents' relationship with each other was a role model for you.

They tried for a good example, at least, even while they
had their own difficulties in the relationship?

They did because they were concerned about how they appeared to the public and wanted to be friends with the socially affluent families in the area. I suppose it’s also because they are doctors and felt like they had to uphold certain personas.

For instance, no one can control their genetics or how they look
