after a sensory overload i cant distance at all. i could not tell you if the floor was 6" or 12feet away from my face. bumbp into things or my feet slap into the ground midstep trippng me up. i cant sit on chair because the ground feels so far away. i normally navigate space by memory when xthis happens. if ivenever been somewhere before i just hope for the best. does this happen to anyone else

I get this but after a particular kind of migraine attack. I get a few other weird symptoms besides this, but my perceptions are definitely altered.

I guess It's worth asking, do you have any bad headaches before you experience this? Or any visual disturbances like shimmering lights etc?

i do sometimes get this headaches but im not sure if thats because of sensory overload or because because it happens in loud rooms. as far as hallucinations go i get these quite often. all the lights pulse or i feel a strong wind that is not there. i often smeel copper at times like this but not quite blood smell. more like a mix of salt and vinegar and old coins. not sweat or blood though

It may be worth talking to your doctor and discuss being referred to a specialist as migraine can certainly cause all of what you've described. I've had migraines since I was very young. They were usually always very painful, but recently I've been getting migraine with aura and this seems to trigger very similar experiences to what you've described. Weird smells etc that only I can detect.

I don't recall having ever having gotten the symptoms I get now with this new migraine with aura thing I've been dealing with. I had some issues with flashing lights, slight visual distortions, like circles appearing elliptical. But now I feel like I get sensory overload after these migraines. Things suddenly feel hyper novel and waaaaay too bright and vivid. I also seem to forget words for up to a week too.

It's possible you may be experiencing some sort of migraine and it's triggering these symptoms. So it's probably a good idea to rule it out. Of course the good news is migraine is very treatable if that's what it turns out to be and maybe you can get some rest from these symptoms.

I have migraine that does not always give me headache, but I get dizzy, nausea, brain fog, slurred speech, ataxia and super sensitive to light and sound. This lasts for days at a time. I also get the "phantom" odors. Mine always smells like metallic car exhaust, very weird. My neurologist said it is a migraine aura. I agree with MildredHubble that you could likely benefit from seeing a Neurologist who specializes in migraine. I take a daily preventative medicine that has managed things pretty well for many years. You may have to try a few medicines before finding the right one, but there are a lot of options nowadays.

those are exactly my symptoms. hadent considered migrains before i will look into it thanks

Definitely talk to a doctor about this! There's quite a few preventative meds they can prescribe if it is migraine :-)

I would suggest writing a list of symptoms and when they occur. Add to the list as you notice things and take it with you to the doctor to reference when you talk to them.

I did this recently and I found it helped me not to forget little but relevant things.

Good luck! :-)
