Any opportunites for holiday get-togethers with people aware of the Autism Spectrum?

Any encouraging experiences?
Moi?

I kind of meant the opposite. I only ever had one relative (sister) whom I had any kind of emotionally rewarding relationship and her with me, and we couldn't stand each other! 😁

Ok, I'm being a little facetious, we both loved each other dearly and neither of us connected with other family members but each other, but we also could get very irritated with each other if in proximity for too long, but neither of us made anything of it, just how we were, didn't need to pretend otherwise, in fact we got on better for being aware and accepting it as meaning nothing. Besides, I could irritate a Buddha to distraction! 😊

Anyway, point is, we never needed to do anything to 'prove' our relationship; we could not be in touch for a year, and then one call the other out of the blue and not consider anything wrong or dwell on the period of time. We were just there for each other (but had our own separate lives) and to have a little confirmation (through very pleasurable rants about the various members of our immediate family, dissecting their personalities with the enthusiasm of a necrophiliac coroner) that our family was more dysfunctional than we were! 🤪

Anybody share their experiences with 'Autism Forums' with people who are not 'Autism Forum' members?

Personally, I've mentioned my interest in 'Autism Forums' - yet I've hesitated to mention my participation here on 'Autism Forums' - that is, I've hestiated to mention my experiences in order to encourage impartial perspectives.

Presently, I don't sense it's necessary to offer further details of my participation here on 'Autism Forums.'

Any encouraging experiences?
ADDENDUM: I sense from the lack of encouraging (positive) responses in this disc. thread, that we our own "worst enemies" in not "breaking the ice," and stepping-out of our "comfort zones."

I sense that a self-fulfilling cycle fuelled by discouragment is at work here.

And, yes, from personal experiences, I understand that I'm mentioning in print an inconvenient truth, and that pesky "800 pound beast in the room."

Yes, positive experiences are likely a rarity. The silver lining here is anything that is rare, and positive can be treated as valuable. Can anybody share such rare value - hence helping this value to spread?

Personally, I would prompty share those rare beneficial experiences on 'Autism Forums.'

To send that "800 pound beast in the room" packing is a New Year's Resolution many of us would love to make!

To be completely honest, I find your mode of writing very hard to understand with my mode of thinking. Maybe because I lack any pre-existing knowledge of you, and thus lack the context I'd need to be able to translate your messages into something I can understand?

So my concern of others misreading my comments as negative (which has put me off saying this here up to now) is not a question of 'breaking the ice' or leaving any 'comfort zones'.

Also, I got the impression you were not especially interested in the comments I had made so far - as you didn't engage with them I assumed it wasn't what you were looking for?

Rereading discussion thread in order to create a post to clarify.

Discussion best continued in new discussion thread, 'Any Opportunites for Get-Togethers afer the (hectic) Holidays?'

To clarify:

- Post #21: Why is it necessary to imply that trusted relatives are hard to come-by?

- Post #22: I asked, "Any encouraging experiences?" Basically, I'm asking to expand experiences from any trusted familiar people, not just relatives.

- Post #23: I had to reread this post in order to understand the gist of this response.

- Post #24: I asked, "Anybody share their experiences with 'Autism Forums' with people who are not 'Autism Forum' members?" I have been unable to become acquainted with a trusted, impartial person to 'chime-in' on my participation here on Autism Forums - that is being advised on how to best word, and frame content in order to avoid confusion.

- Discusison continued in thread, 'Any Opportunities for Get-Togethers After the (Hectic) Holidays?'

Bumping-up discussion-thread for the holidays.

Any opportunites to introduce 'Autism Forums' at get-togethers?

I would be helpful to help newcomers to 'Autism Forums' by showing specific examples of discussion threads discussing issues that are personally relevant.

Relatives might a distance away. Anybody considering for relocation to be closer to trusted relatives?
I am. Although not just to be closer to my trusted relative but becuase they live where I grew up and I miss it there.

Such relocation seems almost impossible though because of all the practical considerations involved. Still, I continue to explore the possibility.
