Orangevale, Calif.

A Census Designated Place east of Sacramento. In the 1890's, the area became a farming colony of 10-acre lots.
A major citrus-growing area which included the neighboring Citrus Heights city. In the 1930's a number of frigid winters destroyed the citrus trees. Around 1960 AerojetGeneral (an aerospace and tire company) transferred there and eventually employed 22,000. Orangevale became a bedroom community of Sacramento.
