60 Seconds Game Discussion

I'd like to take a minute to talk about the game 60 Seconds. Now, when I first saw thumbnails for its Let's Plays, I wasn't sure. Mind you: I have a crippling phobia of nuclear war. So, like with The Rake and Slender, I was concerned watching this would make my anxiety worse. Or cause the events I feared to come true.

I found myself...Not scared. A little anxious, but overall, entertained.

What I really want to bring up is how 60 Seconds is almost a spiritual successor to/transatlantic equivalent to/affectionate parody of When The Wind Blows. The similarities:

• Both center around a couple/family preparing for nuclear war.
• Said couple/family has great yet blind trust and faith that the government will help them out.
• Both are 'satire.'

And the differences:

• The characters. When The Wind Blows centers around an elderly British couple. 60 Seconds is centered around your typical American family.
• The tones. When The Wind Blows is in no way a comedy; It is a heart-wrenching tale made to drive home the horrors of nuclear war. 60 Seconds is a black comedy with many references scattered across.
• The settings(?). When The Wind Blows is set in rural England, in the 1980s. As far as I know, 60 Seconds is set in the 1950s or 1960s.

I know that has nothing to do with the post, but I know nothing about When the Wind Blows or 60 Seconds. I'm glad you found the latter entertaining, not anxiety producing.
