Sometimes l think life can be summarized with two skills:

1. Knowing your odds
2. Negotiating skills

I have visions being lined up by the shooting squad, and l would be negotiating something, the angle of the shooters, the chance of getting out, l would be working it.

What are your two essential life skills?

Happy Friday!!

1. A rightness with one's own company, but valuing those who value you.

2. Read. Damage your ignorance.

Two isn't enough for me, I like to splurge. But if there's gotta only be 2, probably, 1. Humility - approaching others with respect and openness to how they are. 2. Listening, taking time to understand the other, checking what they mean.

This has been a more recent development, but:
1. Taking pause to understand context and perspective before expressing a thought on a topic.
2. Being accepting of myself and others, and embracing our differences.

Mine are kind of conflicting, but serve me well.
Empathy and skepticism.
They really do not conflict. I think that skepticism comes from somebody who is empathetic but has been hurt because of it. When at my lowest and my sad balloon of hope for a relationship was punctured, I became very cynical.

Sounds good. What would be examples of how you personally operationalise these ideas in your life?

The kindness is done primarily through my students and counseling, and gratitude is a daily way of thinking. Hope that answers your question!
