Re: art, in my life, certain books/writers/poets have meant the world to me, but re: music…we all have that one musician who has meant so much to us, like in a damn near religious sense. Mine is Tori Amos. Who is yours?

Eric Clapton. His blues style is so true to the original blues guys like Robert Johnson. He never sold out to pop. He is still making amazing musical creations. "EC is God"!

Peter Steele. His music got me through the darkest times ever. I listened to October Rust nonstop right after my kids were gone. It meant the world to me and still does. I belong to a memorial group for him. As long as it remains, I'll be there, because I can never repay how those songs helped me.

I imagine most people have something closer to a Pantheon, wasn't easy to pick. I went with Hakushi Hasegawa because he's one of the most impressive songwriters to me. It's as if he owns a key to the floodgates of my soul. His pieces are blissful on every layer I care about. Rhythm, unique vocal melody phrasing, sound production, song structure, dissonance used to supreme effect. I can always be confident when recommending him that it's gonna sound like nothing you've ever heard before.

I guess A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving is my most Cathartic experience. Was a relief to see someone similar to me portrayed into the two main characters.
After some 20 minutes mental walkabout, I think this one by the same author was as cathartic, The Cider House Rules.

From music? there is to much of it to select even a band. If you point a gun at me, maybe Pink Floyd. Nero (EDM), Radiohead, Linkin Park. Genesis/P.Collins
I think the concept of music is the most godlike not the participants.

I could somehow say the same for writing, without the cuneiform revolution we would have a different society today.

I remain in awe at the banjo stylings of Allison Brown. A composer I like is Harold Arlen. Only he would dare to do full octave jumps in popular music, like in the opening of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

P!nk! While I was physically recovering from a suicide attempt, I asked for someone to bring me something that could play her music. Though there was a pounding in my head and a ringing in my ears, it helped.

My dad used to play Pink Floyd albums all the time when I was a kid. Animals is my favorite album of theirs.

It was my older brother that listened to Pink Floyd. And Jean-Michel Jarre. Constantly.
The Dark Side of the Moon is my 1st choice and Live in Pompeii.

My oldest brother played Saga, Styx, Queen, Toto, Police

That's tough! When I was young there was the Beatles. There were a lot of different musicians that had a big impact on me. I love classic rock. Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Kinks, all very important to me.

Recently? Sarah Brightman. Or maybe Enya.

Well, Geoff Tate, of course. Supernal. Benevolent δαίμων, for sure.

It was probably Burial, but I haven't enjoyed any of his new releases since 2016. So I guess he'd be a demigod.

There is another artist called Volor Flex who is seen as a bit of an imitation/tribute to Burial. But has produced a lot more music, more albums and the style hasn't digressed as severely as Burial's has.

Just in general though - that grainy, lo-fi style future garage is a very good genre.

^ This reminds me a bit of Aphex Twin. Which coming to mind, Richard James (Aphex Twin) could be in this category for me.

Aphex Twin was a bit too hit and miss for me. A lot of his stuff is basically noise. I think I kept 5-10 of his songs. But I haven't heard any of his latest works.

Mind you, there is a genre called "Noise" and it does what it says on the tin.

I enjoyed this on by Aphex Twin in particular.

Queen. There is a lot of music I like just as well. But when I think about all my major life events there has always been Queen playing along like a sound track to my life.
