my mom didn’t teach us to speak German but I wish she had. My grandparents came from Vienna, and another from Germany, and somewhere in Poland that was later part of Germany.
A strange little happy word they used tor that last little piece of the bread:

One thing that is always hilarious, is when Americans make movies with Germans speaking English with a German accent. That`s language gold. So funny and it sounds good. This is just one small example:

I really like the word “idiot.” I like to call people idiots when they’re not nice to me.
I don’t know why that word amuses me I’m not usually a fan of rude language.

My favorite is syzygy. It is the shortest word that I know with the most Ys. I also like it because it has none of the traditional word vowels (ie. A. E. I. O. or U), and the other three letters are disconnected from each other. It is also something that you do not hear in most conversations you are likely to have with anyone and it cannot ever be used in scrabble without a wild tile and a lot of luck.

I like the word "Deal". But not in the modern sense.

My grandfather and people of his generation used the word "Deal" a lot in conversation, to describe any object.

For instance, "I was working with this deal and it came apart.", or "I was changing the tires, and one of the deals was stuck on so I had to break the bolts to get the deal off", or "Hey, hold this deal upright for me while I secure the other end."

I don't know if I'll ever hear it again in a sentence, as it is very old-timey, but it makes me think of home.
