Words From Your Favorite Song

So this is to bring back those songs we sing over and over, (if l could only stop singing this song). It's up to you how much of the song you wish to put down.

Allow me to throw this out:

It's my party and l'll cry if l want to, cry if l want to.

Too many to list.

But as my favourite songs is are many here is my most favourite:

1) Maybe I'm Amazed (1976) by Paul McCartney and Wings

Maybe I'm a man
Maybe I'm a lonely man who's in the middle of something
That he doesn't really understand

I will list the rest of my top five:

2) I Need to Be in Love (1976) by The Carpenters

I know I need to be in love
I know I've wasted too much time
I know I ask perfection of a quite imperfect world
And fool enough to think that's what I'll find

3) If (1972) by Bread

If a man could be two places at one time
I'd be with you
Tomorrow and today
Beside you all the way

If the world should stop revolving
Spinning slowly down to die
I'd spend the end with you
And when the world was through
Then one by one the stars would all go out
Then you and I would simply fly away

4) Heaven (1984) by Bryan Adams

Oh, once in your life you find someone
Who will turn your world around
Bring you up when you're feelin' down

Yeah, nothin' could change what you mean to me
Oh, there's lots that I could say
But just hold me now
'Cause our love will light the way

5) Landslide (1975) by Fleetwood Mac

But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older too
Oh, I'm getting older too

If you noticed, most of the songs are love songs from the 1970s. I am an old-fashioned romantic, a 70 year old in the body of a 30 year old.

I often get made fun of, lambasted and insulted for liking this music. But just look at the lyrics (or look up the songs yourself), and tell me if you would criticise anyone for liking these songs.

Landslide is one of my favourites, too.

...I've been afraid of changes,
'cause I've built my life around you..

How about my favourite being one that almost eveyone makes fun of?

And yes, I made the drawing.
It has been used on various fan club and facebook groups for years.

Lovely drawing Susan, I have a Manilow best of.

I couldn't single any one lyric out, there's too many.

one from a hymn :joy and strength each day i’ll find and that my soul knows very well
It makes me think of the inside that I try to ignore

Absolutely we would not criticize such taste in music, as our 10 year old son sings and loves these type of songs, in addition to others from that era. He loves 70s music, as it is calming and he feels it fits his voice better for his young age. Eventually, he will sing other type of songs from other music styles and eras, as he ages and his voice develops. But, right now he loves singing inspirational songs, from The Carpenters, Bread, The Beatles, etc. Lundi, based on your taste, you may like “Don’t Give Up On Us” and “We’re All Alone,” too. It seems to be the style of the songs you like.

I have a few:

(1) Marian (1987) by The Sisters of Mercy

In a sea of faces, in a sea of doubt
In this cruel place your voice above the maelstrom
In the wake of this ship of fools I'm falling further down
If you can see me, Marian, reach out and take me home

(2) Creep (1993) by Radiohead

When you were here before
Couldn't look you in the eye
You're just like an angel
Your skin makes me cry
You float like a feather
In a beautiful world
I wish I was special
You're so ****in' special
But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here

(3) Stolzes Herz (1996) by Lacrimosa

To feel in order to perceive
My senses - My soul
My conscience - And my heart
At the abyss of my life
At the end of my self
Frail deep inside - And weak to the world

Is it bad?
And what is good?
Is it ailing?
And what does living mean?
No!
It is only honest - human
And cursed - it is only the truth

(4) Since Yesterday (1985) by Strawberry Switchblade

Just close your eyes and then remember
The thoughts you've locked away
When tomorrow comes you'll wish
You had today

And as we sit here alone
Looking for a reason to go on
It's so clear that all we have now
Are our thoughts of yesterday

“Looking For Space” by John Denver

On the road of experience, I'm trying to find my own way.
Sometimes I wish that I could fly away
When I think that I'm moving, suddenly things stand still
I'm afraid 'cause I think they always will

And I'm looking for space
And to find out who I am
And I'm looking to know and understand
It's a sweet, sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
And sometimes I'm deep in despair

All alone in the universe, sometimes that's how it seems
I get lost in the sadness and the screams
Then I look in the center, suddenly everything's clear
I find myself in the sunshine and my dreams

And I'm looking for space
And to find out who I am
And I'm looking to know and understand
It's a sweet, sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
And sometimes I'm deep in despair

On the road of experience, join in the living day
If there's an answer, it's just that it's just that way
When you're looking for space
And to find out who you are
When you're looking to try and reach the stars

It's a sweet, sweet, sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
But sometimes I'm deep in despair
Sometimes I fly like an eagle,
Like an eagle
I go flying flying

Just Like A Pill - P!nk

"You're just like a pill
Instead of making me better
You keep making me ill"

Can't Sleep - K. Flay

"My mother told me that the world has got its plans
I wanna hold 'em 'til they burn right through my hands"

"Our Rage Won't Die" by Meshuggah

"Cry if you need to, disguise, evade, hide
Run 'til you hit water, then swim
Murder in your wake, plan, commit, exact
You have earned our rage, now fly

Beg if you have to, trade away your pride
Run 'til you hit ground, then dig
Death in your wake, those fantasies enacted
You will learn that our rage won't die
You will surely pay the ultimate price
There is no way you will escape our retribution
It will not matter how long it takes
You took them from us so we will take you"

Hotel California by the Eagles.

"You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave."

The M People, 1994

Search for the hero

Sometimes a river flows but nothing breathes
A train arrives but never leaves
It's a shame
Oh life like love that walks out of the door
Like being rich or being poor
Such a shame.
But it's then, then that faith arrives
To make you feel at least alive
And that's why you should keep on aiming high
Just seek yourself and you will shine

You've got to search for the hero inside yourself
Search for the secrets you hide
Search for the hero inside yourself
Until you find the key to your life

In this life, long and hard though it may seem,
Live it as you'd live a dream,
Aim so high!
Just keep the flame of truth burning bright
The missing treasure you must find
Because you and only you
Can build a bridge across the stream
Weave your spell in life's rich tapestry
Your passport to a feel supreme.

You've got to search for the hero inside yourself
Search for the secrets you hide
Search for the hero inside yourself
Until you find the key to your life....

And yes, I made the drawing.

That is such a beautiful drawing, what a artist you are. It has life, something very hard for artists to capture.

Too many songs that are favorites, or meaningful, but I'll share one I found early this year, around the time I figured out I was on the spectrum. I doubt it was written with ASD in mind, but it to me summed up the experience of being autistic in a neurotypical world, struggling to survive and being misunderstood, even the part where our life expectancy is shockingly short.

You're blind to what's in front of you
What do you know about the truth
Devalued as soon as we're cast
We were never made to last
Just bodies made and fabricated
We're fighting towards our life extension
We're living for expiration

Under the surface we're not machines
Under the surface we're living dreams
Death lives just one breath away
Somewhere my heart beats in silence
I made my way through the violence
Nobody lives forever

Very existential, nihilistic even. I’ve felt like this a time or two.
