Why would my ex boyfriend tell me to fix my autism symptoms in order for him to have the patience for me?

It seems that your ex isn't going to accept you as you are for things you can't change. If you did get back with him, the dynamic would be him trying to mold you into an average-functioning neurotypical, and that is likely to end in disappointment for both of you.

It's probably best to move on and try to find someone else who will be better-able to mentally connect with you.

You can be responsible AND enjoy childish forms of entertainment at the same time.
I prefer using the word "childlike" rather than "childish".

I read somewhere that (many/all?) ppl on the spectrum have a childlike mindset, in some instances at least, due to a certain part of the prefrontal cortex not developing the way it does in an NT brain.

An interesting theory.
Whether it is true or not, I don't know, but the phenomenon of childlike behaviour by ppl on the spectrum is easily observable, IMO.
My obsessive concern about not harming ants, etc, is an example of this in myself. 🐜

Treatments that are not recommended for autism

Treatments for autism that are fake or can be harmful

Some products or services, claiming to be cures or treatments for autism, are fake or can be harmful.
Examples of these include:

  • GcMAF – an unlicensed injection made from blood cells
  • bleaching – also called chlorine dioxide (CD) or Mineral Miracle Solution (MMS)
  • CEASE, which discourages vaccinations and recommends potentially dangerous levels of nutritional supplements
  • chelation – removing heavy metal toxins from the blood
  • secretin – a hormone found in the body
  • some vitamins, minerals and dietary supplements
  • raw camel's milk

Besides, autism (being a healthy form of neuro-diversity) does not require treatment. Only pathological co-morbid conditions do.

The problem is, how many of us don't have pathological co-morbid conditions?

I consider AuDHD & executive dysfunction very detrimental.
They have been the bane of my life.
Information overload, causing emotional meltdowns, is disabling.
Obsessive/compulsive honesty hardly makes you friends.
Lack of ToM isn't fun either, unless you enjoy living in a fog of confusion.

Let's face it, it isn't easy being green or autistic for the vast majority.

Who here is a Category 4 Autistic?
Put your hand down Neo, you show off. :p

I enjoy my logical mind, honesty, and sense of justice, however.
It is a mixed bag. <shrug>

I cannot compare my face-blindness and generally being a social outsider* to the cognitive deficits my ASD2 & 3 children are saddled with on top of the above.

My co-morbids seem like an inconvenience in comparison, like being color blind vs. being legally blind or completely blind.

*Even non-autistic gifteds experience that social disconnect. I consider that to be an artifact of all neuro-diversity, not just autism.

I would be happy to get rid of autism and leave the IQ. However, things just don't work like that.

My co-morbids seem like an inconvenience in comparison, like being color blind vs. being legally blind or completely blind.
Same. I wouldn't say it's an "inconvenience", but autism is a chronic condition for me and the level of inconvenience and fuss with it is similar to other chronic conditions like migraines.

As I have come to realize, most of what makes anyone feel awkward is when they know / are aware of something few or no one else at all in the same area have a clue about. It can be because of major intelligence differential. It can be because of age / experience gaps. Several such things.
