What kind of content do you consume?

What types of materials do you consume, browse, or listen to on a daily basis? These could include media, news briefs, books, or posts in various online communities.

These days I rarely listen to any music, I prefer quiet, that's ever since I lived in the bush. Ever since I was a kid I was always an avid reader of fantasy fiction novels and series.

On a daily basis, several times a day in fact, I check on several different news servers around the world and keep up with current world events. One of my life time special interests: anthropology, sociology, political science and law. They're all the one topic to me.

I don't do social media. I don't do chat. I don't play games online although I spend the majority of my time playing games. This forum is the only online social interaction that I have. I found the internet in general to be a particularly nasty and unfriendly place, if I feel like socialising I'll go to the pub.

I read three (mainstream) news feeds every day. I read portions from at least 3 different books each day. The TV will be on for a while in the evenings - mostly my family chooses what is on - I may be reading at the same time. (Like now ;)) I am not on any (other) social media. I will listen to (Australian) ABC Radio National when I am driving.

Mostly the only thing I look at is Reddit. I do visit Facebook a bit but that's because several of my older relatives are on there. I'll watch some Youtube videos when I'm trying to get to sleep - mostly ASMR ones. And then there's this site.

1. autismforums.com
2. Ground News app
3. Local News TV
4. YouTube for special interests videos...rockhounding locations, orchids, bonsai, gardening, botany, animals and nature, AI, robotics, medical interests, home construction and design, travel destinations,...
5. The wife and I like to watch various TV series on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, etc. We typically only have an hour or so of free time between getting home from work and going to bed, so its a nice filler, allowing us to just chill for a while. Currently, we are watching the Foundation series from Isaac Asimov...reviewing seasons 1 & 2 before diving into season 3.

Read all the books. (Love SF.) Lost track of where I am in the series (think I’ve seen at least seasons 1 & 2) but will end up watching all of them.

i have a loop of playing games, and then watching videos about them, i don't spoil them with videos, but after i played enough i watch. Also videos about current events, i try to avoid mainstream media, they are too biased and hide and show and twist news based on their political views.

The kind that doesnt make me want to stab something.

When it comes to videos, stuff to watch, it's gotten MUCH harder to find something that obeys that rule. Used to love Youtube in particular. Honestly at this point though I rather hate it. Accursed site gets worse every day, and my subscriptions list is constantly shrinking as I remove more and more of them.

The people that I am subscribed to who A: actually still post videos and B: did not pivot their content to something problematic, tend to make really freaking good content. But it's harder to even keep track of what anyone is doing and Youtube is constantly trying to shove things up my nose that I dont want.

I use extensions that effectively chop the site to pieces, so the majority of its functionality is outright missing. It can play videos sorta (sometimes they need to be reloaded a couple of times before it stops choking on itself) and I can find them through a very damaged front page or direct search only. I'm constantly disappointed by the fact that this actually makes it EASIER to find stuff. I miss what that site used to be.

I dont touch the news in any form with a 2000 mile pole, so none of that. Though, that's not a recent thing, I've always avoided that.

Same with social media. I refuse.

I think my interests in stuff to watch is regressing, drastically. As a kid I frequently watched a lot of shows that were well before my time (as I was born in the 80s). First time in ages, I did that again recently. Sat down to watch The Twilight Zone. Been through the first 5 episodes so far. First time in ages that I've watched something without this sort of creeping background disgust being constantly there. Also the first time I've watched anything that could be considered "TV" in forever. In the process of doing that, I discovered that I have no bloody idea how to use a modern TV. How long have the bloody things been like that now?

I used to use forums a lot too. Like, A LOT. But most have rotted away.

Overall, the internet just blows goat chunks these days, so I'm pulling away from it more and more. It is depressing. I cant believe I'm saying this, but I miss the days of dial-up. Slow as dirt, sure, but it really was something special back then.

On the other hand, my main hobby is gaming, and that is downright thriving. Eclipsing even the days of the NES and SNES. I dont really do big AAA games though, I dont like most of those. It's mostly indies and AA for me. There's way too many good games around right now for me to even begin to count them. This all is mostly on PC, through Steam. Singleplayer games only though.

Steam actually is sort of the last bastion of the internet for me, really. I used to meet people through forums or other things, but that only happens on Steam now.

I play a lot of retro games as well. I have a massive ROM archive (run through a very elaborate Launchbox setup) with every game from the NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, and also every arcade game ever from 2006 and earlier. The archive takes up most of the drive on this PC.

Books, I dont read nearly as much as I used to. Though I think that was partly depression. I started going to the library again recently. I dont like tablets, gotta be physical books. I read mostly horror and... uh... yes. I used to read a lot of manga, but that entirely stopped after the local bookstores closed down. They're too annoying to get otherwise.

Music, just soundtracks from whatever games I'm into. Only when I'm in the car.

What else even is there? Not sure. I think that's all.

Do you remember Usenet News? I was heavily involved in AFU (I was mentioned in the archives) and made friendships that endure to this day. Social media today - 🤮 Now everything is alt.flame.*

I mostly watch YouTube "how to" videos, then try doing.

I've read thousands of books and sometimes try to find a novel I haven't already read (in a different form by a different author), or an author with a nice voice and storytelling style - but am frequently disappointed, so it is no longer my "go to" form of entertainment.

Movies are even worse in both those aspects.

Music is still constantly surprising so I listen to that.

I never log in to youtube. That means I can't subscribe and more importantly I can't comment no matter how much I want to some times. This has saved me a lot of stress.

Also, because my browser deletes all it's cookies every time I close it, every time I go to youtube it has no records of my previous searches and so it tries to serve me a whole new brand of crap. I like to mess with it's AI search engine too, choose one specific video, watch just a few seconds of it then reload the main youtube page. Through doing this a few times I've managed to make it give me the sorts of videos I'm looking for, sometimes.

Consistently?

Otherwise given so much bad news in the world I have somewhat tapered back my viewing of other news sources. And while driving with a 285-watt 9-speaker audio system I prefer to listen only to music from my own personal selection of MP3 files on a single USB flash drive.

While I have access to a few HD radio channels, I never listen to any of them.

I mostly listen to Messianic Jewish music, but that is only for probably about an hour per day over in the evening. I also like classical and opera. I don't get to hear opera much because I don't know anyone else who likes it.
I research different topics according to what topic I am diving into at the moment. I will use various sources both online and in books.
I get stuck on one or two movies or series and watch them, watch YouTube skits about them, read fanfics, take roleplay quizzes that insert yourself into the story, daydream my own story lines that include myself, ect.

Autismforums.com, naturally.

YouTube for gaming, tech, DIY tutorials and sometimes just random interesting things.

Twitch.tv for gaming, tech and art streams.

Reddit for specific gaming and tech related things, like restoring and modding retro consoles.

My daily content consumption is reading or watching something. I visit Reddit TIL Today I Learned, a US coin forum for research or communication, this website we are on now, eBay listings, and I usually stream a show on prime like Tales Of Wells Fargo/other shows/or movies.

I like Opera, wife does not.

I frequent about 6 sites online (this one included). If I play any games, they are either logic/strategy puzzles and such, or I will play some console games but mostly just sports. Movies and prose tend to lean into action / horror / sci-fi / comedy genres a majority of the time. Music tends to be anything from Classical to Extreme Hardcore Metal.
