What is your comfort food?

You had a long day work, you didn't fall sleep until 2:00 am. the night before. You know when you finally get home, you make yourself a giant ????? that just spells comfort food, like grandmother made it just as you walked thru the door, or mother, or boyfriend, or whoever......

I know that tea is a beverage not a food but does a cup of hot tea count?

English Breakfast and Earl Grey are two of my favorites. I also have some herbal ones that I like such as licorice tea and chamomile tea. How about you?

Beef pies. Not the mass produced rubbish, a real pie fresh from the oven in a little corner bakery. Iced coffee and a snot block (Vanilla Slice) to go with it.

Another real comfort food for a freezing cold winter's day is fish and chips, but it has to be from an old fashioned place that wraps them up in paper instead of putting them in a stupid cardboard box.

This is because the wrapped up bundle can be shoved down the front of your jumper to help warm up your outside as you eat and warm up your inside.

A nice fresh warm loaf of crusty French bread. So happy I don't have gluten issues because I will literally sit and eat an entire loaf. Just ripping pieces off, no butter or anything. Just straight bread.

A traditional surfer meal, almost. You rip in to one end of the bread, then eat all the insides out first. Then you tip in a packet of potato chips/crisps, squash it flat and eat it like a chip sandwich.

I made French baguets yesterday and had to stop my husband from immediately cutting into one when they came out of the oven. If you cut a hot loaf of bread, it releases the moisture too fast and screws up the texture, usually making it soggy. Bread needs to cool completely from the inside out before it is cut.

Once the bread has completely cooled, you can heat it up to enjoy eating it warm.

Year around. Coffee has always been a comfort drink. Caffeine or decaf. I've learned to enjoy the warmth of it.

As far as food food. A well made desert like: pie, cake, or cookies. Though during the colder months, I find beef stew and chilli the best to have. A good vegetable or chicken soup, isn't out of the question either.

Never! I'm eating it while it's still warm from the oven. Any other way is heresy.

Next time I do attempt to make them at home I will torture myself and wait for it to "cool properly". Just to see the difference. My comment above is in jest obviously. I'd never heard before about it changing the texture if you cut into it too soon. That's really good advice, thanks.

When you take the bread from the oven and put it on a wire rack to cool, immediately put your ear close to the bread loaf to hear it "sing" - it makes a crackling sound as it starts to cool. :)

Grilled cheese sandwich, made with "American cheese" in plastic wrapping, and canned tomato soup.

This is what we ate when I was 5. It still takes me back...
