What brand of smart thermostat do you prefer?

I was wondering, what brand of smart thermostat do you prefer?

I personally like Honeywell/Resideo. I have the Honeywell Color Smart Thermostats.

We have dual heat pump systems (ground water open cycle, discharged to our pond), in floor downstairs, circulating air upstairs. So we do not use any smart thermostats. Because of long cycle times it is more efficient to maintain a constant temperature. Instead we manage 6 zones for heating/cooling on dumb thermostats with a Honeywell HVAC management system that uses both outdoor and indoor temperatures to manage valving and heat pumps. This works well with our south facing, insulated concrete form, house which lets sun in during the winter but with deep eaves to shade the windows during the summer.

Me too. I`m keeping my home free of all those fancy electronic gadgets, speakers that talk to you and smart thermostats and such.

I don`t have a thermostat, I have a fireplace in the living room and panel heaters in the other rooms.

I've already moved beyond smart thermostats. For those still only do what they are programmed to do. Mine argues with me every night.

When I lose, my back-up is dogs. The colder it is the more dogs you add to the bed. My house is rated up to a 4 dog night.

I have the Nest 3 Thermostat. And Nest Protects (smoke alarms/CO detectors). Love it.

Interestingly, for camera's and speakers, I have bought into the Ring and Alexa ecosystems.

Hot day--Open the screen door. Air cooling courtesy of 1918 Westinghouse cast-iron fan.
Really hot day--Open window or door for cool night air.
Fine day--Go Outside.
Cold day--Turn on heater.
Really cold day-- Turn on heater, wear heavy coat, drink coffee.

I hope I am at least as smart as a thermostat, and can stay smart enough never to trade independence for the "convenience" of a house that turns itself on and off.

We use the smart functions more during cooling season than heating season since we live in the Phoenix area.

Honestly I've always had trouble with the idea of something like these. After so much experience with high-end tech in general over the years, I tend to see these more as potential sources of trouble than anything else.

Also it's a bloody sad day if I cant get out of my blasted chair to go push a button or two to change the heat/AC.

That being said, while I have trouble with the idea, we still HAVE things like that, because I'm not the one who makes the decisions around here.

I can say though, I sure have said "why does it need to be able to do that" many times whenever someone in the family decides we need one.

I dont use any of the "smart" functions on any of these things myself though. I'm the rare sort that HAS a phone, but basically never uses it for anything.

Western Electric 302? Those are pretty great!

I have a Northern Electric No. 1 which looks like a slightly stretched version of the same phone but it isn't working right now. The 302 is a lot easier to find parts & service information for.

This was the phone my parents had when I was a wee boy, a Swedish Ericophone with the dial on the bottom. That was later replaced with a Norwegian Elektrisk Bureau phone, in a stylish grey color. Both these phones were better than the smartphone I have now. Less stressing and just better.
