Don't forget the ball cap worn backwards. Something Europeans in particular can't stand.
They're a pet hate here too. :)

Here that's compounded by the fact that they're seen as a fashion statement rather than sports wear, you don't spend all day in the Aussie sun wearing a hat that's going to let your ears get burnt.

Not surprised- on both counts.

Reminding me of a video I saw recently about Australia's smaller communities all across the continent, and how extreme the weather and climate can get. Classic things tourists probably don't give much thought to.

Big floods up the top end at the moment, there's people that were evacuated due to a cyclone over a month ago but the rains haven't let up and they still can't get back home. Now there's another cyclone running right the way across the entire north coast and bringing more heavy rain.

What a lot of people don't realise about rain in the tropics is that it isn't cold, not by most people's standards any way. It only rains during to hottest times of the year and the water falling out of the sky is 27 degrees Celsius, the ground temperature is 27 degrees, the ocean temperature is 27 degrees, and the humidity gets close to 100%.

Then the sun comes back out and the temperature shoots up to 36 degrees with near 100% humidity. :(
