I believe it was called Keeping Up Appearances.
I watched bits of this as a kid, too, ha.

I love their name, Bucket. But it's pronounced Bouquet... because Bucket isn't fancy enough for Hyacinth.

I would have never guesses that so many people were even familiar with this show. I thought it was just something my Mama and I watched together and my Daddy would too if home at the time. I don't remember even encountering anyone else talking about it before.![]()
I grew up with a lot of British TV and Australia produced a few very successful shows using a similar format. One of our classics was a role reversal of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em called Mother and Son.I would have never guesses that so many people were even familiar with this show. I always remember the episode where her and Richard are going on a cruise, and the shenanigans that ensue in the process both before and after they finally get on the boat.I would have never guesses that so many people were even familiar with this show. Bit of a shame; I've heard about people who refuse to watch anything beyond a certain point in time for the reason of "Why should I watch that? It's old" - completely ignoring the interesting stories, characters, etc. that they can learn from despite the differences in time and perspective. The BBC is known and watched worldwide, as well as in English speaking countries.
I think people don't really talk about it because it was aired 30-35 years ago and that was a while ago.
I watched an interview with Dave Barry. He was really a jerk.I met the star of this show, Ruth Cracknel, in real life and she wasn't very funny at all, quite a hard nosed old woman, but I've found this to be true of most comedians when you meet them in real life.
